Whats a good stove for a BOB?

Kelly Kettle, Storm Kettle or a swedish army mess kit. The first two run on twigs, tree cones, whatever. A hardcore multifuel kit. The swedish thing is made to be used with meth. alcohol and can be used over an open fire.

The Kelly kettle is a classic from before WW I.

I use the MSR Whisperlite International stove as it burns just about anything. Its light and great for backpacking or a BOB.

Make your own white box stove out of Snapple ENERGY drink aluminum bottle for $1.50. 2 3/4 inch tall with 21 holes (push pin used like a drill) 3/8 inch apart 3/4 inch down from the rim. File 3 grooves on the top (where the lid was) turn upside down and press fit the 2 pieces together with a block of wood and hammer. drill 3 holes 1/4 inch down from rim and snap rivet together. Use sand paper on a flat surface to even the edge. Very sturdy cheap and fool proof.

Fast and light: MSR Pocket Rocket
Heavy, reliable and multifuel: PRIMUS Omnifuel (try to get the old model though, the new ones come with a plastic pump while the old one is aluminum. That is exactly why I didn't get the MSR Dragonfly... and because it packs smaller.

in a real survival situation i would want a stove that could burn anything including aftershave . i use a wisperlite international personally . it doesnt clog easily and itll burn anything

For small stoves, I like an Esbit or an aluminum soda can alcohol stove. That's about as large and complicated of a stove as I'd like to put in a BOB.

Stay sharp,

how about a coleman 533 its dual fuel whitegas or unleaded regular gas and availible for like 35- 40 dollars and even probably availible in your local wally world

No, it doesn't. Don't try to burn any alcohol based stuff on a Wisperlite or any other multifuel stove. The main problem is that a material impervious to spirits and gas at the same time hasn't been found. The rubber O rings that are gas resistant are not alcohol resistant... so guess what may happen there. Any doubts go check MSR website or Primus website.

Sportsman's Guide has a great bulk deal on Trangia/Svea style alcohol stoves. I just got a package deal that included maybe 8 or 12 of the burners, 4 of the pot-and-pan mess kits, and I think 8-12 of the windscreen/base thingies, and 12 of the plastic bottles for alcohol fuel, all for about $22 US plus shipping. The burners are pretty small and minimalist and idiot-proof. Just the thing for a bugout bag--and at that price, you can give a burner to each of your friends, or kids, or carry 2, etc.

...Trangia/Svea style alcohol stoves...

I don't want to start a flame war here about alcohol stoves VS gas/butane stoves but... while not being exaclty sure what a BOB is all about (I guess I need to do some search on some acronims... I know there is a thread somewhere)... I dare to say that Trangia style alcohol stoves don't give enough BTU's to melt snow in a hurry, neither boil anything fast (think freeze dried food). They may come handy for low heat simmering but they don't work for me in an emergency.

I know there are some presurized alcohol stoves that may work much better than the Trangia style ones but they are so light and delicate you can easily crush them and there goes your stove.

ISO fuel stoves are reliable and don't requiere any maintenance. Multyfuel are reliable as well as long as you clean them once in a while (more often if you use not so clean fuels).

one thing for sure if using a liquid fuel stove, dont use fuel injector cleaner or similar. white gas has a high enough flash point for me . no need to blow up the campsite . and yes i have blown up stoves before:D, my brother got the brunt of it clothes on fire screaming something about his eyes burning and when he started rolling around he caught the yard on fire . its damn funny now but then........
