My budget is tops $100 dollars, but I'd like to keep it at around $85-ish. I was looking at either the Purple Blur in CPM-154
or the Benchmade Griptillian in S30V.
Which one would you chose, or with similar budget what knife would you buy. I'd like it to have around 3.5 inch blade.

Idk if it could be considered "tactical," but what about Kershaw's Rake? Cool looking 14c29n/D2 composite 3.5" blade with lots of belly, G10 handle, speedsafe flipper + studs, and around $85-90. Cold Steel's American Lawman also comes to mind. "Only" AUS-8 blade, but same length, very strong lock, nice thick linerless G-10 scales, and certainly has that "tacticool" appearance. $80-ish price range.

I would go with the grip or an endura for that range. My experience with kersaw has been iffy and both benchmade and spyderco make good knives for the money. Though I will have to agree with the post above, cold steel make some solid knives too.

I can get the Rake at about $75, and the Lawman at $65. But 'm pretty sure the D2 would rust on me in my environment. I guess I found a good dealer

Define "Iffy" I've heard like nothing, but good from them.

If you like the blur, you could pick up an s30v version for way less than $100, since you are worried about rust. Not sure about the ''iffy'' comment because kershaw has the best customer service in the industry, and would take care of you if you ever had a problem including free sharpening and parts.

I experimented with some acid a few days ago, and I dipped my Kershaw Rake's blade in Muriatic Acid for 30 minutes. The 14C28N spine had uneven etching and pitting, while the CPM-D2 edge remained unaffected. Literally, zero effect, unless you count that it it only got somewhat shinier.

I actually think the Benchmade 580 is a pretty tactical blade spring assisted 3.6in blade but for more utility I'd go with a Grip.

Spyderco Para2 in S30V. General purpose goodness.

Plus it has camo scales... I'm not sure how that makes it better exactly but you did say Tactical afterall.

Para 2 and Yojimbo 2 can both be had for under $100 if you can find them in stock. As for the two you mentioned, I like lock and blade shape of the Grip, but the aesthetics and steel of the Blur. The obvious solution...get both. :D

Just my opinion, from someone who doesn't really respect the "tactical folder" genre of knives but, Axis lock>frame or liner lock all day every day.

Get a ligthly used Para 2 , best knife for the price - watch some vids on youtube and you will understand ;)

I scored a couple Benchmade 950s on Ebay for $100 shipped, they are a little heavy, and a Para2 WON't SUCK.

ZT 0350s(black blade) go for under $100 as well for something a little different, and it has S30V steel vs 154 CM on the 950 Rift.

The Grip is an excellent EDC, and a little on the light side for a tactical in my use(I like steel liners).

"What's a good "tactical" folding knife?"

There are none,

..."tactical" folding knife is an oxymoron.
