I admit I may be missing something here. Can I get some feed back? What extactly does this knife do well?
Jim if you're talking about the oversized YCS kardas I don't know of any real purpose for them except maybe that they just look like a cool knife.
The originals along with the YCS Khukuri was designed with the intention of having everything you needed in the field for processing deer or other similar game animals.
Like most of the other non-khukuri knives the YCS kardas are subject to change as time goes on.
The Cherokee Rose is a really good example in that the guard doesn't seem to be as long as the original and for sure it isn't set at the same rakish angle the original was.
There are other minor anomolies as well that don't match the original design.
The kamis have their own ideas of what the knives should be and it's not always conducive to good design unfortunately.
The Atlanta Cutlery kardas are a good example of what a real using karda should be. The ones I got are quite thin and therefore useful as real slicers.
The modern kardas all seem too thick too me as well as not being hard enough too really hold up too hard use.
However a hard knife isn't always the best choice as they are hard to sharpen and often need specialized hones for doing so.
