What's a knife you can't live without?

Recently got back into collecting knives, so I only have five at the moment.

My Buck Tempest is a wonderful knife, so that'd be the one I can't live without.

For now...

My Spyderco Chokwe.
I've had knives I've loved and carried for a long time.
But I know this Chokwe isn't going anywhere.
Even if its pocket time is someday retired, I know it will always be here because I just love it that much.

Hell, people come and go but the knives stay and they sure as hell glow.

GEC #56 Dogleg it for me, seems as I try a plethora of different knives in my EDC rotation this one always seems to find it's way back into my pocket and between the main clip point blade and pen blade there isn't much it can't handle on a daily basis.

All the other posters are putting in their favorite edc knives, and that's great. But for me, I would go nuts without a Becker bk 2. I have 2 just in case one gets demolished by a thermonuclear warhead. And in that case, I would prolly be gone but having 2 of my faves "gets me thru the night".

lol same way I feel about my kabar USMC.

I lived without knives in my life for a long time and i'm still here... However I would stop everything in my life and prioritize buying another emerson mini-cqc 15 if I ever lost mine. Its been my constant pocket companion since the day it came out of the box, more so than any other knife I own.

Right now it's the OLFA LA-X.
All but two of my folders have been sold (or are being prepared to be sold) in preparation for one of the upcoming ZT limited edition models. It becomes increasingly difficult to pick which one as time goes on though (new info of a larger model has me thrown for a loop).
Almost forgot, the Cold Steel Hold Out 1. I love the design (not that it's perfect, but it's different enough in all the right ways to make me want one really badly).

I agree OP. I recently wanted to replace a ZT0550 that I felt wasn't really for me since it was a little large for carry in the city. I decided that I still wanted a hard use knife so I traded it for an esee 6 (perfect size for a light camp knife) and ANOTHER para 2. I have two para 2's now and I have to decide to keep two or trade one away. I might just keep it since it has digicam scales and my first is black scales.

I can't say that I one have particular knife that I can't live without. But I did run into the same problem you have. One knife that I couldn't get out of my pocket. No other knife was better for me. I actually sold off almost my entire collection because of this problem. I sold all my kershaws including my S60V blur!, old school benchmades, my new fancy benchmades, my Camillus Cuda Maxx, my Fox Col Moschin, Military's, Para Military II, Hogue Ex01's etc etc
The knife I am talking about is my Cold Steel American Lawman. I did finally end up carrying a Hold Out II for about a week, it's nice, it has a nice thin blade, but is too small over all. Right now I am carrying my newest knife, a Benchmade Nitrious Stryker in D2. We will see how long this knife lasts, but for now it's doing a good job. Someone before be beadblasted the blade, so it was DULL when I got it. I spent about an hour with a DMT X-Coarse stone and didn't get an edge on it (it was DULL, no bevel to speak of), so I actually sent it back to Benchmade and they fixed it right up. But now I'm actually getting some rust on the blade. (it's been pretty sweaty here lately)
The edge is not terribly fine, but after about a week of use I can just strop it and it's back at shaving sharp.

Anyway, that's my morning ramble.

I'm loving all your guys' story and about your knives...makes me feel that I'm not alone lol. And it's making me love my para 2 even more.

I have a new knife: crkt ripple and while it's great, (perfect centering, light, etc)....it's still has to "pocket pool" with my para 2 because I just can't leave it at home.

definitely my leatherman fuse. Use it every day morning to night and battle at work big time without it

Well for me its more of my multi tool , gerber curcial. I use that thing all the time and never leave home with out it. When on a hike I take my lone wolf drop point by benchmade. So those two I couldn't live without..

My most common EDC is a BM 755 MPR. I got a small plain Sebbie last summer... a StarTac 'zaan the summer before. ZT's - 0551/0561... lots of other BM's - 0630 Sirmish - and my newest - a 15050-2 Bone Collector Lockback Folder, for example. Many favorite Vic SAKs, too. All nice. But - despite 'familiarity breeds contempt', I cannot imagine life without a Buck 110! Yeah, I'm sick. I could have stopped 'acquiring' years ago - and been content.

I've had that thought run through my mind a couple of times.... I think it's the curiosity (blade steel, how a different knife feels, and the feeling of a new knife) that kills me.

Out of well over a hundred knives in my collection, I would say my Vic Tinker. It doesn't matter what knife I feel like carrying each day, that knife always comes along too. I end up needing it for something everyday.

I am glad that SOUTHERN GUITARIST said peanut. I didn't want to be the only one to mention a small slipjoint. I have carried my Buck 309 "Companion" since 1977, ALWAYS. It has frequently been backed by other knives. I usually carry a Victorinox Tinker and Cold Steel Recon 1 ALSO, The "Companion" is ALWAYS. And if it breaks or wears out, i have 2 of the same vintage for backup. It is a go anywhere, do most anything knife. People, seem to love Tanks, i believe that the "Companion" is the tank of the small pen knife world. regards Henry
