My thing is, I don't see a real woods use for this, food prep, yes, bot no wood work to be done with it, but to be completely fair, I haven't held one of these. Can someone comment on its ability to handle wood work?
The 5's ability to handle most any bushcrafting task is the reason I came to love it so much. Before I began taking my 5's out and actually using them, I didn't think they were all that useful either. Man, I was wrong. Whittling, making shavings, batoning--the 5 does it all. I haven't chopped with it much, aside from pruning small branches off my trees in the back yard. It worked fine. I spent a weekend out in the sticks last month using only the 5 and a small axe to do all of my wood-related chores with no problems. The 5 further endears itself by being lighter than a comparable Becker.
The blade shape of the 5 is very close to that of the old English and French trade knives; one of the blade designs that won the frontier of America. If it was a good enough design for those tough, salty old frontiersmen and longhunters who made their living in the savage wilderness, it's good enough for me.
