What's all the hype about the BK-5?

My thing is, I don't see a real woods use for this, food prep, yes, bot no wood work to be done with it, but to be completely fair, I haven't held one of these. Can someone comment on its ability to handle wood work?

The 5's ability to handle most any bushcrafting task is the reason I came to love it so much. Before I began taking my 5's out and actually using them, I didn't think they were all that useful either. Man, I was wrong. Whittling, making shavings, batoning--the 5 does it all. I haven't chopped with it much, aside from pruning small branches off my trees in the back yard. It worked fine. I spent a weekend out in the sticks last month using only the 5 and a small axe to do all of my wood-related chores with no problems. The 5 further endears itself by being lighter than a comparable Becker.

The blade shape of the 5 is very close to that of the old English and French trade knives; one of the blade designs that won the frontier of America. If it was a good enough design for those tough, salty old frontiersmen and longhunters who made their living in the savage wilderness, it's good enough for me.

Food prep in 'camp'? that's pretty large food to pack around.

How's this for large food?:D

My BK-9 did most of the work, which is why it has been officially named The Baconator by my family and friends, but the 5 got in on the action, too. If I had wanted, I could have processed all of Miss Piggy with just the 5 alone.

I'm thinking fall gathering...

Been in contact with him regarding my axe or axes. I'll have to plan to attend his workshop one of these days which isn't too far from my workplace.

Wasatch - That is a great use of a BK-5! Always love to see 'em put to good use.

Jonny - congrats on your newest addition.

The 5 is indeed sexay. I just ran mine over a stone, hadn't touched the edge since I got it, WOW it gets SHARP very quickly! I was literally exploding hair off my leg, I may have bare spots now.

It has a feel that's just superb, I agree it would be a vicious fighter...I kinda wish I did more butchering just so I could use it more in that capacity.

It WILL hold up in the woods, I was pleasantly surprised by how well it did in the chop-off I had awhile back, it cuts deep, kinda sticks in the wood though.

It will chop and baton, The only way I would consider it more ''frail'' then it's other Becker Brothers is in prying. I just dont think the thinnish slender swedged blade would pry as hard as say the 9 or 2 would. But I aint tried it to see, I like it to much to torture it too hard.

The only Becker I own and will never get rid of it. Might even get another one after looking at this thread!

I bow to thee and Albert from Seattle Edge.
I did not believe a 5 blade's shape could be made any better.
I stand corrected.

Thanks!! I really like how it turned out, but without The Warrior I would have never seen the possibilities that there were with the BK5. He did a great job with the photochop on it that I had to get one modded.

Turned out great!
I'm not a huge fan of tanto blades. But I like yours.
Might hit up Albert and have him work his waterstone magic on my 5.
