If you could have any knife for the rest of your life but it had to be made out of a certain steel, which would it be?

From my experiences in the knife world which is extremely limited but will get larger sooner or later,(walmart knives until a few months ago when my girlfriend got me a ZT0200) mine would be 154cm! its the only high-end steel i've have and i love it!
So guys and gals, what would be your choice of steel? Include the knife if you wish!

On a larger fixed blade knife or hatchet I prefer a very tough carbon steel like 5160 or 52100.

On smaller fixed blades and folders I want something that is stainless with good edge retention such as 154CM, VG-10, S30V, or S90V.

I can't believe everyone has a different choice. Mine would be 01 for fixed and D2 for folder.

Right now ZDP189. I hope to be using some S90V and M4 in the future and one of those might be better.

But I can get it extremely sharp without a ton of equipment and it holds it for a long time. Other steels would have to be sharpened 2 or 3 times and the ZDP will still be shaving. Guess thats why I just splurged and have 2 more knives coming in ZDP :D:D

For fixed blades, I love 1095, always have.

In folders it's a toss up between VG-10 and S30V. But I don't mind sharpening and I'm pretty good at it, so if I like the design of the knife I'll take any higher quality steel.

1095, 01. Tied for first
s30v
154cm. Almost tied.
Buck's 420HC
440C.

That would do it for me.

Sg2, I can get it sharper than any other knife, and it holds it better than any other knife I own.
It takes a razor edge and maintains it like nobody's business, and I just love my JYD so maybe I'm biased. :D

If you had asked me a few years ago, I'd have said M2.

Today, there are so many good steels being offerred in knives I can't say I have a favorite. I have favorite knives, but as to steel I find many steels to be desireable.
