Beef. Saw these in the butcher case and had to have 'em.

The potato was an afterthought. I just wanted steak. And damn, it was good.

With all that marbling, it melted in my mouth.

After dinner, I was inspired by Dubz's antler pipe and Mongo's (Outdoor forum) pipe thread.
I smoked the first bowl of pipe tobacco I've had in probably five or six years.
Used a little Grabow drugstore pipe that is handy when you want a small bowl.
Also used the pipe tamp I made from a piece of antler and a .50 caliber cleaning jag.

I just saw some antler and shell casing tamps on the web. Gonna have to make me one. I just finished a bowl in the antler pipe, my second one. No issues what so ever. Really like it. Gonna get me a 14" churchwarden next. Oh yeah, steak looks good. ;)

My wife is making fried chicken, mashed potatoes w/ gravy, steamed broccoli, and cornbread. Sorry no pics. She won't let me in the kitchen. :)

We picked up a loaf of Challah bread the other day, so I made french toast for supper tonight - served it up covered in PB and homemade mulberry sludge.
good stuff!

I forget the thread size now, but I drilled and tapped the antler so I could screw in the jag for a nice, neat fit. I think I used epoxy or superglue too. Was a long time ago.

Looks really nice. I'm gonna have to come up with a fancy tamper, and stand for my new pipe.

Nice. Actually, just a spent rifle casing makes a durn good tamper.
I have a bunch of tampers gathered back when I used to smoke more. I'll try to take a picture of them together when I have some decent light.

Does mulberry sludge make you giddy too?

Usually, you pack a bowl by hand, hit it with a first burn, and then tamp the tobacco so that it will burn steadily and not expire.
Takes a little practice, but you're looking for a tamped bowl that allows enough oxygen (not too tight) but not too much oxygen (not too loose). :D

Yeah, there is an art to it. One I haven't really mastered yet.

"The pipe tamper is merely a small, handheld tool used to pack the tobacco into the bowl in order to gain the proper packing of the tobacco to burn properly."

That meal called for a pipe. Surely you had a sip of bourbon too, because that would just be uncivilized.
