Hello everybody! I'm a new guy here on the forums, have got some Swiss Army Knives, used several years, and they always working good. Now I'd like to get something different, something longer and stronger. I've read hundreds pages of the thread "Just pix of knives" these days, there're so many knives and so cool shapes. I don't often go camping, hiking, fishing etc, so where should I start? Folders and fixed blades are all OK. Thx!

Hey super vague but cool, I would 100% recommend a spyderco pm2 as a do everything folder, it's super tough, amazing lock, blade steel etc a million reviews are up explaining why. Fixed blades is another story with endless options, but I really think the pm2 stands out massively as the best folder (for price and function). Fixed blades you would need to be more specific, I love my bk9 and gmf1 combo, but a fallkniven f1 is also amazing but a terrible slicer, so if you want slicing over smashing I would suggest a spyderco sprig, or if you want in between maybe a south fork. All of those are awful wood carvers and a mora Eldris will carve circles around them so you would really have to know what you want it to do, no knife is the best at everything

Thx! So I'll get a folder first, and haven't decide what to do with a strong blade knife. I like Spyderco too, and pm2 looks very nice, not too long or too big for me, but it's a little expensive, what do you think of delica4? Is it strong enough?

Delica's are great if you don't mind the frn scales. Personally I'm not a huge fan of the plasticky feel and would go with the Tenacious as my budget spyderco option.
In your price range you should also look through some of cold steel's offerings, Kershaw has a bunch in that range too, the Link, Skyline, their emerson collaborations, etc.
Buck has the vantage line that make great edc's, Ontario has the Rat, there's a ton of options.

Sounds like you are on the right path for the folder, I also, recommend the Buck Vantage series or the Rat line. I say try a Mora for lightweight fixed blades if you are not sure yet, a scandi grind make take some getting used to, but worth the value. Once you know your needs better, and what you like, increase your budget accordingly. Let us know what knives you go for.

Delica is a great first knife. Every knife nut has got to own one at some point or another. If you want more budget friendly the Ontario rat 1 or 2 are very good.

Buy a Spyderco Delica. It is a great gateway drug. Soon you will be as addicted as the rest of us. But that is one knife that will last and do most things well.

In my case after my SAK, I have purchased a ZT0350, and aPM2.
The ZT0350 fell more substantial for outdoor use , mainly du to its weight.
The PM2 is lighter but can take a lot and is IMHO more versatile than the ZT0350.
Both are very good folders for EDC/outdoor use.

The Delica 4 is also a very good option, but it is more an EDC than anything else and I will not use it for outdoor tasks like I would for my ZT0350.

If you are more interested into fixed blade, I have been very happy with my ESEE 4, but it is quite expensive and has a short handle which may not be the best for everyone.

Buy American.

Knives are like kids. They may not be the best, but damn they are ours. Best to us; the quality of others kids is outside our immediate concern. It's not a competition or knife duel.

Even for those outside US, buy American. Cuz America, fck yeah.

Thank you everyone, considering all your opinions, I decide to get a Spyderco Delica 4, and have ordered it! Cold Steel, BUCK, ZT, Ontario etc, maybe try them later.

Nice first blade. Endura was my first Spyderco. I carried it daily for acouple of years . It s still in my smalledc rotation most of the time. Enjoy your Delica.
