3 tapered tangs in MagnaCut coming along.
That was the easy part, now to find something to do with that scrap piece.
I was going to say: integral scalpel, but I like your idea betterLapel dagger.
Love how it turned out! What did you end up settling on for the process?Finallyā¦.. Ever since I broke the tip off of this one and turned it into a tanto, Iāve had a vision of the way I wanted the finish on the blade to look. After 3 days of etching and polishing I finally got it! I Wanted a little darker slightly worn look and Iāve thrown every potion and powder I could find at it to get it. I only had to completely start over and re-sand it once. Itās hard to get a good picture of it but itās exactly what I wanted.

I started with 5-6 etches in about 10:1 FeCl dropping from 45 seconds down to about 10 seconds. After that I polished it with 1200 grit AO powder then another polish with Cerium Oxide. After that it got a soak in hot (~160F) white vinegar and I literally just watched it until the lighter colors were more defined. A hot plate and a stainless mud pan with the ends sealed is perfect for that by the way. After that I rubbed it with hot lemon juice to get it slightly darker and then I polished it with the powders listed above again. I spent most of the day tinkering with it but thatās where I ended up with it. I abandoned Flitz for this knife because it tends to strip the darker oxides completely. It looks totally different in different lighting which is really cool.Love how it turned out! What did you end up settling on for the process?
