What's going on with these bolsters?

I dare not deny the mighty #45, it might chop my fingers off if I do.

Dude, why has no-one come up with a knife bandolier? That'd be so much cooler than a knife roll at shows and gatherings. PM me, we're going to be rich!

we are also probably going to be arrested for walking around with a bandolier of knives, so bail money!

With a knife bandolier one could always carry their favorite knives while saving pocket space for more knives

So, for my purposes, on knife protection, i dont have to worry about the expiration date? i really bought it cause Tim suggested I protect that TC better. I usually put 3 in 1 on all of my 1095s cause I dont handle food with them. Thanks for the advice and info you offer!

i did find it in the laxatives section which was surprising because I thought it was a home goods item. i got to work early because i needed to drop a package off at the usps and walked around rite aid aisles for 15 minutes looking. couldnt find it.

Expiration date is for pharmaceutical use only. Good for years when used on knives.

I prefer mineral oil to 3-in-one because I find that 3-in-one gets gummy with age. Mineral oil does not do that.

It is sold as a laxative.

I really like to use sentry solutions tuff cloth for rust protection, it doesn't seem to be any better than regular oils except that it is a dry film and not so messy, I hate oil for that reason.

to protect my knives i use 2 different products.
To seal and protect the scales i just dissolve a white candle (paraffin) into white spirit until saturation at warm temp. Then buff with a cotton clothe. It is a recepit i learned from the ivory carver Natasha ( http://www.thecarvingpath.net/forum/index.php?/topic/1488-staining-bone/page__p__13174#entry13174 ) but it works for most natural materials.

For the joint, spring and blade i find the Singer brand sewing machine oil to be very effective. It doesn't get gummy, but of course i need to clean the blade before food use.
I have left the vet mineral oil behind for folders because it wasn't as effective as lubricant in the joint (strong pulls=galling) and i find it "dirty" on the knife. Still i use it on my carbon steel kitchen knives, for food grade reasons.

I don't know about collecting conditions and related loss of value, but those spots can be easily removed without damaging the knife.

Have you been stropping the blade? That black just looks like compound from the buffing wheel or from a blade stropping. Brass/NS attracts tarnish like a magnet anyway.

I agree it does look like that but the knife is uncarried, unused and unsharpened. It is on all 4 corners and the NS is a bit rougher underneath it. I suspect that during finishing the corners missed the last buff. Which is understandable given how unwieldy these big knives are.

much obliged Frank, cause this bottle looks like it would last forever on knives! its huge!

As a youth,my friend's dad used mineral oil "regularly" (grin) as a laxative.

I agree ,it looks as if those areas on the knife were just missed, and they were being finished daily during the Rendezvous. If you wanted to keep it pristine ,send it back, that's not a big fix.Nice knife.
