What's Growing in the Garden 2009 Thread

lets see...

herbs: sage, gold rimmed thyme, english thyme, parsley, chives, greek oregano, golden oregano, italian basil, thai basil, chocolate mint, taragon, upright rosemary, creeping rosemary

peppers: habaneros, ghost peppers, red peppers

veg: eggplant, zuchinni, early girls, cherry tomatoes

Bobby you are right about it being prime critter country.:D My boy's dog usually keeps most of them from doing to much damage to the garden and my flower beds.

grybsh7,

I thought the critters would probably be close by. I've got a mess of rabbits hanging around my garden. They usually help themselves to some of the produce during the summer, and i usually help myself to some rabbit jerky in the fall. ha ha.

You've got just about everything you need to get all of your vitamins. What kind of peppers are the "ghost peppers"? Are they a hot pepper? How is there flavor? I like the Pablano Peppers, but couldn't find and to plant this year.

Here is what I picked out of the patch today....60 to be exact.
I guess it's time to start making pickles?:D

Going to the store tomorrow to get my supplies.....I'll be canning within a day or two!

Thank's

Tomatoes and gay zucchini. :(

I learned the hard way not to plant more then two zucchini plants, but this year, they are not producing. They only have male flowers so far and it's been almost 2 months since I planted them. The weather has been kind of strange.

The weeds are doing great though. :D

Pulled these onions (stuttgarter's) yesterday. They are a sweet variety that grows well here in Hershey, PA. I usually plant about twice this many, but I decided to plant them in 2 cycles. I'll put the remaining sets in this week.

Update: Just dug up about 10 lbs of potatoes and will replant with bush beans in same area. Fresh potatoes are great YUUUUMM

With all the rain we had this spring and early summer, the garden hasn't been doing too well:

bush beans: the plants are only about 12" high, but they're producing a steady trickle of full-size beans. early on, the bugs were murdering the leaves

pumpkins: finally starting to grow like crazy after the rains stopped, but it seems like they got accustomed to the wet - the leaves are starting to yellow, even with watering. So far the flowers have not been turning to fruit

zucchini - similar to the pumpkins, but they're faring better in the hydration department

eggplants - growing VERY slow. there's one bud on one of my plants.

This year was our first at vegetable gardening and we tried strawberries, cantaloupe, watermelon, eggplant, green bell peppers, cukes, romaine and two different kinds of tomatoes. Oh yeah also a little herb garden with basil, mint, dill and something else I can't remember.

I think we planted a little late in the season but still got a decent amount of tomatoes and eggplants as well as some strawberries. The cantaloupe and cukes didn't last long, the watermelon produced one small fruit, the peppers only gave us two small ones and the romaine was tasty before it bolted and then YUCK!! I think it just got too warm and the lettuce grew too fast.

Hoping to try again, this winter, but plant everything earlier this time.
