Whats happened to the Full Flat Grind??

I was really happy to see the return of CBT's to a couple of blades this year!

Most ASH1s are FFG; I think the skinny ASH1 is convex ground. The ASH1 was immensely popular. It would seem to me the advantage of the saber grind diminishes as the blade length gets smaller (I'm referring to the vibration dampening). I prefer FFG.

Each of these grinds has some advantage for certain applications, but overall for my vote:

Convex > Flat >>>>> Sabre >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hollow (which I consider almost a novelty for most applications)

A really High hollow, like on Demko's AD10 ain't too bad....

but yeah, those insanely thin behind the edge hollow grinds with the insanely thick spines are comical.

Zero edge full height Convex is a pretty extraordinary grind thats hard to beat for a medium to large sized, hard use knife... Looks dam sexy too....

I guess Full flat, Full height, Convex.... I'm kind of categorising them together.... but the Sabre is certainly not in that category and what this thread is trying to Demote by extension of Promoting Full Flat.

Full flat, full height convex with zero edge, then high Saber distant 3rd

I'd like to see Jerry try the Bob Hunnicutt rebated flat grind. This is one heck of a grind!

Although I am a big fan of full flat, sabre grind pushes the weight balance forwards so I find them to be more comfortable for small and mid sized knives. If more knives could have the light brigade treatment I think this will be resolved nicely however.

Interesting post.^
I could not find any info on the rebated flat grind but Bob told me metal is removed, just below the spine, on both sides of the blade. Think, a large shallow hollow grind. Then, the flat grind starts at the bottom of the hollow grind down to the edge. A very interesting grind, indeed.
