Whats happening with BUSSE?

They have been putting out new offerings every week for the last month or two, and they sell fast.

They are probably pumping out more steel lately than they have in a while. You need to sign up to their mailing list if you aren't seeing activity.

Sign up on their news letter. New offerings just about weekly ;) But they do not last long...

Thanks , will do.But why is that? Is that only new sort of marketing, or they are preparing whole new line of products? Or,third option (unlikely to me) are they cease trading?

I haven't been around long, but have heard a lot of speculation that it's the second option. Some kind of evil genius marketing scheme to drain everyone's wallets with the quick-hit limited offerings, then go for the kill and release a new slate of regular production items while everyone is still reeling from the humpday frenzies. :p

Seems to me like they are just doing short runs of what their customers have been wanting for a long time. It's actually very smart marketing as these short runs become collectors items. But I don't think that is why they do it. It is cheaper for them to do runs of one model instead of having to change their process for multiple models. The savings gets transferred to us. And that is good for us. I don't think you have been around long enough to realize that production output these days blows away the production output of 8-10 years ago, when you wondered if you would ever get your knife. So you should be happy about this system if you know the past.

But the bigger question is why is this a big deal to you?

Hi Cobalt

It is not "the big deal " to me,as I only asked simple question and that for reason,I had my eye for some time to invest once into a BUSSE knife (for me a lot of money for a knife, but I believe, these knifes last long and are made of real quality material) so I decide to see if model I like, is still out there....only I discovered the website is having all models discontinued (apart of one, that is not my type)..... You mentioned "savings are transfered to us" - does that mean that whatever models BUSSE is currently offering are cheaper for customer now?

Thanks

Also I noticed,BUSSE's advertising other kind of steel,Sr 101 and run through one thread here about it,so you guys who knows the stuff and BUSSE fans,

1.how does this steel stand against INFI in overall quality?
(I understood this steel have similar properties as INFI but is probably way less rust resistant?)

2.When it comes to price, whats price difference between same knife made by INFI vs SR101?

3.Did BUSSE ceased to make INFI knifes?

Busse is still making INFI knives, the ASH2 is INFI.

SR101 knives tend to be cheaper.

A lot of the current releases have been made of the same steel as the swamp rat line instead of the usual Infi steel. A bit cheaper price point, but still an extremely good choice.

1. Quality is exactly the same. The most important part to a steel is the heat treat and all the steels Busse uses are treated equally well. AS for specific properties, yes SR101 will rust just like 52100 and 1080 steel will. You have to keep it well maintained. INFI is better in that regard due to lots more chrome. As for toughness, I would argue differentially heat treated SR101 is fully the equal of INFI, S7 or 3V in toughness. Wear resistance goes to higher alloy content steels like INFI. Edge holding is subjective.

2.Price difference is huge. It is probably 60% of INFI. Great bang for the buck

3. Nope They sell one right now that is a smoking deal and if you want INFI that is a good one to get

Many thanks Cobalt for answer and also to all responders past or due.

I had my eye on straight back battle mistress (same as one advertised and still appearing on BUSSE website) just not limited edition, but normal, not numbered version.I think it was priced like 460-480 bucks at the time, made of INFI

If you like the mistress, you may want to think of getting the knife that is up on their site right now. It is just a bit shorter overal but still sports a 9" blade. That is a great all around knife that will be a good chopper as well. and it is only $427

Hey OP why didn't you get an ASHBM? There was also the TGLB, SOB, AALB and Battle Saw. All INFI knives that were available before the Battle Grades came out.

You've been around long enough to see they sell out.

I can tell you from my own personal experience that it took me about two weeks to realize that if I wanted a certain Busse I better buy it when I can.

Are you gonna get an Ash2??

SR101 is good steel. Combine it with some Busse models and you have some great knives at awesome prices.

So I am not trying to start trouble, but I have a theory (purely speculation)...

What if the steel company that makes infi, has lowered its production. Basically what if Busse has been having a hard time getting their hands on whatever infi is before it gets its special Busse heat treat? (LSS Modified A8, I think)

They could be running all these Battle Grade blades to keep production, while trying to find a replacement for infi, or while waiting for Latrobe to make/deliver more. They could be testing new steels.

Either way, the customers are getting a bunch of badass Busse models for a lower price. Hopefully its just Jerry having a little fun and putting out some high value blades while he designs new infi models.

I've been buying too many of these things for a too long time, but it still strikes me as funny when I hear that a knife is "only" $427.

But not as funny as when I think about knives I bought for less than that, and sold for "only" $850.
