Whats happening with BUSSE?

So I am not trying to start trouble, but I have a theory (purely speculation)...

What if the steel company that makes infi, has lowered its production. Basically what if Busse has been having a hard time getting their hands on whatever infi is before it gets its special Busse heat treat? (LSS Modified A8, I think)

They could be running all these Battle Grade blades to keep production, while trying to find a replacement for infi, or while waiting for Latrobe to make/deliver more. They could be testing new steels.

Either way, the customers are getting a bunch of badass Busse models for a lower price. Hopefully its just Jerry having a little fun and putting out some high value blades while he designs new infi models.

In my opinion, (also likevise your,"speculation") would be rather that Busse is trying to reach people with limited budget for such things as knifes.....and trying to get with quality of steel as close as possible to INFI at the same time...that's my only reason for them to market now SR101 steel.
I think, that makes perfect sense, because economy in many countries suffering downfall these days (USA included) and they see opportunity to reach much wider consumer base in purpose of higher sales.

Don't get me wrong and do not feel offended, but very limited amount of customers can afford to pay 350-650 bucks for knife, that's a lot and I mean a lot for a single knife and very few people can afford it.....

I am a family man, having kids, two jobs and to save that money just for a knife is very tough let me tell you,,,, maybe somebody knows too, anytime you think when your wages comes next time, you tell yourself - I will save some money, but than bills, rent, insurance, utility bills, fees for school, medical expenses ,ect.ect.and seem like it will never going to happen to get this together for Busse which cost half a thousand bucks.... (maybe Busse could think of some broken instalments payments ahead let's say one could pay one knife in 5 -10 installments as an option....(easy for those who doesn't wanna feel the pain of the cost of INFI blades)

I had my eyes only and purely on straight back battle mistress, with chrome-polished blade, this model is most appealing to me, I think it's very practical and wicked! Don't fancy much any other "so far" models....By Busse discontinued line of knifes,I strongly belive, that they are preparing whole new line of knifes, again as usual temporary one...That makes sense,I highly doubt they would be ceasing to trade

I dunno where they get their steel, but it is possible they have to wait on it to be produced

I would not read too much into the recent blitz of weekly options. Overall, I've enjoyed the recent offerings. Always wanted a CG Ratweiler and I'll buy anything with the name Ash in it. I'm sure the new year will bring some stability to the Busse Company site with a handful of set models for sale. That being said, you never know what Mr. Busse has up his sleeve.

It's also important to remember that Busse is a small operation that hand makes knives. I think we get very spoiled in today's world with all sorts of options available all the time. This is part of the reason I love Busse knives so much - it's a quality hand crafted piece. That saud, I can understand why someone new to these knives wouldn't understand what's happening with the site right now. I like it and think it's exciting, but it could be confusing to brand new piglets.

That's true, I've been "following" Busse for a long time, only began really buying them this year. I've seen them do a lot of different things concerning how they market/sell their stuff...not a bad thing, keeps things fresh...

I wouldn't say handmade. A lot of CNC involved. I would say there is much hands on in the sharpening and finishing of the satin and custom shop knives.

hey Riz, Serious,

The short answer to what's going on with Busse is "only good things". We've gotten two awesome Infi blades in the past couple months, the Battle Saw and an the Ash2. Before that there was a long run for the Infi Anniversary blades. As for the 101's I think it's a fun thing they're doing to rile up the hogs, get a couple cool, reasonably priced pieces out there for people to handle, and I bet a good way to gauge popularity for which classic models may make a return in Infi. Like when the they brought back the Boss Jack for an Infi production run.

There was a time when it was only one blade for a while and when it was gone it was gone. That's probably easier in terms of production logistics, but for the time being I think it's cool to see them stretching to accommodate all types of customers and budgets.

Yup, what he said-the Satin blades take more time and workmanship to complete and finish, consequently they cost more-

While, I can't argue one way or the other with any speculation, I can tell you that you are wrong about mA8 from LSS. I have already posted twice the composition of modern INFI and while it is similar, it is not mA8, no more than CPM3V is modA8. My speculation is that modern INFI is the old mINFI, but I have not tested an old mINFI to prove that. Old mINFI was supposedly lacking in Cobalt and Nickel and so is modern INFI. I do know that INFI's formula is specifically requested by Busse to be made. It is not off the shelf like so many think.

I myself never felt the need to pay infi prices.... hell for real work it is hard to beat the SYCO line. .... I have had my share of Rats as well. SR101 has easily handled any outdoors wood processing with ease and keeps a super sharp edge... I have no need to look elsewhere.

With the new Busses SR101 offerings.... I just got the ASH1... I have to say in comparing it to the Rats I've had, the design is better.... more detailed and feels better in hand. IMO aside from the steel.. Busses designs are better than rats... another reason to go busse

As a result, buses's sold at sr101 prices are a better bargain and good for the buyers... get them while you can

Can you believe it. They got SICK of me and got rid of ME!!!! ;)

Interesting! How do you test? Gas Chromatography? As said before my speculation was just a random thought. I am quite sure that whatever the Busse crew is doing is for a good reason. I know this... I finally got my hands on a SWATmandu! I just dont want the infi goodness to vanish.

Not to worry. Jerry himself recently posted on a similar thread and wrote that INFI was here to stay.

no problem. Just wanted to make it clear that there is no speculation of what INFI is.

There's No INFI shortage. . . . . . We've got TONS!. . . Literally!

Here's a little background on what's happening . . . .

I often ask myself, "Self I say, what would be fun for the customers?" and then we try it.:D

This seemed like it might be a lot of fun. Lots of short runs of new and old models that are limited in number and availability coming at you at the speed of light.

Don't like the current model? No worries my friends. . . In less than a week you'll have another one to look at. . .

The limited availability and the fact that we will not rerun any of these models for at least a year should make it easy for folks who want to sell one to get another.

So, hang on crew!!!

It's gonna be a wild ride!!!:eek::D:thumbup:

Thanks Jerry. Figured that might have been the case behind the latest - and future - offerings...;-)
