I posted this request over in the Spyderco Forum, but have had no response. Can anyone here give me an answer?

<<<Received my "Toad" about a week ago (only my third Spydie of MANY to come!) As a charter member of the "What kind of a name is THAT?" Club, I have a question: why does the "signature" on the blade say "D' holder" (with a SMALL letter "h"? IMHO, shouldn't it read "D'A. Holder" or "D. Holder" (with a CAPITAL "h"?? Sorry, I'm not only a writer but also an Olympic caliber nitpicker and proofreader. >>>

Thanks!

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

Um, have you seen the D'Holder Toad? It looks like a Toad!

Ugly as hell, but use it and it becomes a handsome prince!

O.K. stupid reply but it's late here!

Take care!

P.S. Really though the Toad is a terrific little piece, I have one and it cuts and handles much better than it's size might indicate.

Oops, what did I do wrong? I did a cut & paste from the Spyderco request. Unfortunately, when I "pasted" here - the message disappeared! Let me try again:

Nawww - us cockroaches ain't "The Eaten", we're "The Eaters"!

BTW, I don't understand why people consider this to be an "ugly" knife. It's a small marvel! Compact, legal, understated, purposeful, useful - this Cockroach LOVES his little Toad!

I agree with your observations regarding the usefullness of the toad. A neat little knife that cuts like a much larger blade.

My Spyderco D'holder "Toad" is beside me as I type this post. It's a great little knife, and believe it or not, has the sharpest blade of any knife I own. Even though the blade is tiny, the little Toad makes up for this by being extremely strong and sharp. It reminds me of my tiny Seecamp .32ACP pocket pistol. It's a VERY small pistol, but very strong and well made.
Both of these items just shout QUALITY!

That's the kind of "noise" I love. Being totally "mechanically challenged", I am unfortunately reduced to buying and collecting such items!

But no one has answered my question yet: why "D'holder" and not "D'Holder"? C'mon guys, I'm counting on you.

Sorry! I was under the impression that the correct spelling of the gentleman's name is D'Alton Holder. My mistake, I guess.

I would say that it was simply the way that Mr. Holder decided to mark his custom knives. I would say the reason(s) are probably personal. He probably just like it that way. I understand your post from the Spyderco forum now. Emailing or calling him would probably be the way to find out. I can't help with the email but his phone number is listed in the Knives annuals. Since it is a published number I suppose it would be kosher to put it here.

623-878-3064

That is per Knives 2000.

Hope that helps.

The first knife was probably used to cut stuff.

Thanks, Paul. You seem to be the only person in three forums who actually understands my question. I will call Mr. Holder and share his response with you.
