What's In a Name?

Well, we have our Frog and our Red Buffalo, but little did you guys know that some years ago my nickname in and around Tucson, AZ was "Bluefish".

I won't go into particulars, but it had to do with my behaviour in bars whilst in the company of women as yet unknown to me.

(I've since, grown up, of course. Just in case the mrs. happens into this thread!!!)

Yvsa, what would be the Cherokee name for Bluefish?

:
Blues my old Cherokee language book
tells me it is Atsadi (Fish)
Sagonige (Blue).
And it would be spoken in that order.
Pronounceation for me would be difficult, but I will dig out my newer book later and see if I can put it in phonics for you if you want.

Yvsa, hooked on phonics for my friends.

Thanks, Yvsa.

Good thing I don't have to go by that name anymore, huh?

Sagoniges

(Say, wasn't he the Greek philosopher that first pondered the meaning of HIKV?

Blues:

Considering you short and entirely unsatisfactory explanation of your former nic, maybe it should have been atsadi, gad'ha agvyvli....

Bro, you translate. I gotta get back in the cellar... QUICK Hehehehe

Walosi,

I know I'll have to hunt you down like the dog you are for those remarks, but I'm grinning anyway.

The name emanated from the "feeding frenzy" I was purported to go into in the circumstances previously described.

Fishermen in the northeast will tell you that the bluefish is a hell of a fighting fish, and when you get in a school of 'em, you go home with tired arms at the end of the day.

And that's all I'm gonna say about that.

I'm just gonna hang around in the cellar a while, 'til Yvsa sends up an all clear. Gotta get a fridge down here.

You might want to lay in a good supply of flies down there, Walosi. You've been spending a lot of time there lately.

And that had better be one devil of a stout door what with all the woodcutting power available to this forum.

Old bank vault door - I'm still digging a back way out (one good thing you learn from Woodchuckitus) but don't tell Dirty Old Fish.

Got to have a way out for hunting at night - they don't keep well underground, and besides, the buzzing keeps me awake.

Khukuries - there, this post is still on topic, whatever that was.

Wal,

Go ahead, it's okay to answer that knock. Honestly, it's not a team of black clad operators doing the dirty old fish a favor.

Dirty old fish. I like it.

We may have to change your name to Puxatawney Wal.

Blues,

Yeah and if he comes out of the cellar and sees the shadow of ANY trees, he must go and get a khuk and chop them down! Six more weeks of sharpening

Rob, Dir...er Blues:

You've gone and gotten T-Bone's post mixed in with this - When the Usti Walosi sees his shadow, it just means its Springtime in Oklahoma and all the leaves have been blown off his tree (look for new tree - I hung on to my old one, and wound up in Kentucky).

The shadow thing, and growing a tail and woodchoppers (Khukuri Denturia?) are all part of another urban sorta legend. And I am NOT the one who e-mailed Sandi about sewing a tail-port in Terry's jeans. Really. I didn't do that. Not my style.

Wish those goons would stop that knocking. Girl Scout Cookie salesMEN?, in flak vests? The neighborhood is going downhill fast

Malay vocabs ...

Walosi --- Malays called Frog as Katak (pronunce as Car + Tuck).

Yvsa --- Malays called Red Buffalo as Kerbau Merah (pronunce as Kher + Bow + May + ruh).

Blues --- Malays called Bluefish as Ikan Biru (pronunce as Ee + carn + bee + rue).

I just love your names!

Mohd:

Thank You !!

Besides great fun, you learn here. Even the things that may be trivia today can be important tomorrow when a new sun comes up.

I had a dream maybe 4 years ago. I saw the former soke, and asked for the spirit of the wolf. He said I could not have it...but I could have the spirit of the eagle.

I think I forgot to thank him.

Spectre - are you sure that's Roswell, Georgia and not Roswell, NEW MEXICO?

And if you ever get to area 51, you may as well drive the extra hundred miles and stop by to see me. Besides that, you ought to visit the place that started the 1890 Ghost Dance.

...Do do that Ikan Biru that you do so well...

Thanks, Mohd.
