This post was inspired by Blues', excuse me, Elliott's post;
A Thought On Posts In The Traditional Forum...

I would like to echo Elliott's thoughts on the community here. I consider this sub-forum to almost be a part of my home, and since we are getting to know each other on a first name basis I thought it might be interesting for us here in the Traditional Forum to explain our user names as another way to get acquainted.
Of course some are obvious, and some may be personal or inappropriate to explain, so it is of course at your own discretion.

I will start with mine since FLymon is not something you would readily guess the meaning of.
It is a variant of my alias, Frank Lymon. You know, from Amherst College? Maybe a picture will help..

Actually Frank Lymon is itself an alias of a character (Eric Stratton aka "Otter") in the movie Animal House. Otter poses as a dead girls boyfriend and... oh just go see the movie if you haven't memorized every line of it already.

Anyway that's mine, what's yours?

Elliott, aka Blues, thought it would be nice to know people by their first names around here, and I agree!

I think it would be interesting to know how people came up with their BladeForum name, so I'll start it off .....

"coyote711" ..... My name is Keith Wiley, and waaaay back in high school my nickname was "Wiley Coyote", so I decided to choose "Coyote" for my handle around here ..... "Coyote" was already in use, so I just added a special month and day - July 11th - and arrived at "coyote711".

So how did you come up with your handle, and is there is special meaning or significance to it?

Peruna was a "medicinal" elixir in vogue in the Dallas area during Prohibition for its amazing alcohol-like qualities. It was so popular, that when Southern Methodist University adopted the name Mustangs for its football teams and set about naming the first mustang mascot, the name Peruna was chosen. Since then, there have been eight Perunas at SMU.

I am, of course, an SMU grad. Class of 1998. Hence the 1998 on the handle, as well. I am proud to have attended SMU, though I did not always fit in there. I have found that using the name Peruna online is an excellent choice as no one knows what it refers to.

See...I told ya... :p

I guess it's just a case of great traditional minds thinking alike.:cool:

P.S. I merged the two threads...

Boy, is Keith gonna be pissed at you! :p

I've been using "Blues" so long I almost forgot...but the reason for it was twofold...a lifelong career in law enforcement and a deep love for the blues (and jazz), America's true gift to the world of music imho.

HA! Hey, I'm betting that you, ELLIOTT, can combine these two dueling threads, or just kill mine and I'll re-post here.

(Ya beat me to it, Stu! Great minds think alike!) ;) Elliott, you also were one step ahead of me here! Way to go, Bro!

It would have been Jackknife but I wanted to have it as an e-mail address as well and as you can imagine Jackknife was already gone. So I lost one of the K's and here I am. Don't use the jacknife@ anymore.

Good job I didn't get Jackknife or what would we be calling Karl? :)

Steve Holt was a very minor character on the too short-lived, best TV show ever: Arrested Development.

I don't remember why I picked that handle when I signed up on BF a couple years ago, but almost immediately regretted it. It doesn't match the name I use on any other forum, game site, or anywhere else on the internet. I always give my real name in PM's, e-mails, paypal, etc. but it's a little confusing since it sounds like a real name, not a nickname. I was going to make a new account, but that is a violation of the TOS, so I stuck with it.

My name is David

I started making slipjoints around the same time we had our first little girl, Grace. It seemed that all I could think about was that little baby and the next knife I wanted to make....hence the title blades&grace.

Knife Crazied means. I wanted something different and I wanted knife in it. My family and friends have always said I was crazy when it came to buying knives. So I came up with Knife Crazied. Now there that wasn't so bad was it. :D

An Absintheur is...oddly enough, an aficionado of Absinthe. I will also add that all of the myths surrounding absinthe are just that...myths. It is not a drug nor will it make you hallucinate like LSD will. It is just a potent (most are 160-180 proof) alcoholic beverage with a herbal flavoring I like. The herbs do act as a digestive so a nice glass following a meal is both tasty and beneficial. But absinthe will not make you high, insane, or have hallucinations like Johnny Depp. The entire reason for it's being banned at one time was purely political.

Wade...the Absinthe Whisperer...

Kamagong is the name for macassar ebony in the Philippines. I was given that name by my cousins when I visited there after graduating from college. Compared to Americans most Filipinos are pretty short. Being raised here I ended up being on the tall end of the spectrum. All in all a good thing, but Philippine houses tend to have low ceilings and steep stairs. Not a good combination for someone my height. As a result I would often bang my head on the aforementioned low ceilings whenever I would ascend a flight of stairs. After the third time this happened a couple of my cousins commented that I have an incredibly hard head, like kamagong. I registered on Bladeforums a few months later, and I've been kamagong ever since.

Jim Croce - I Got a Name, carry a slip joint and my friends who talk to me know it. (1973) :D

Thawk - Short for Trail_Hawk, my Ebay name. I enjoy sighting and observing all types of birds of prey... hawks, owls, falcons, eagles, and kites. Pronounced Tee-Hawk, I came up with it on the spur of the moment, without a lot of thought.

silenthunterstudios came about when I thought I would be able to publish comic books, then a zine, then an online comic strip. Got it from a sweatshirt with a pic of a wolf in the snow, with the words under it, silent hunter. Decided I would use it here. Seemed better than Dan Dan the Drywall Man (ahem, my first name is Dan ;)).

Northeast CA is listed as my location. To nail it down further, I live in Modoc County CA hence Modoc ED.

Yes, it's interesting to see people's names in their signature as mine has been for some time BUT I would like to see everyone include their location to some degree even if it is only the State they live in just to give us a general idea as to where they're from. Just my .02¢

I ended up as 555 aka nickels after the first two names I tried to use were already taken when joining the forum.
