What's in a (screen) name???

my great grandmother use to make me up a batch anytime i would ask (which was often).

Man, I haven't had any since my grandmother passed in 87. I actually saw a can on the shelf of a grocery store ( i didn't even know they sold poke salad in a can) a while back but there is no way in hell it could even be close so I didn't bother trying it. Most people don't have a clue what it is if they don't live in the South but I guess the same can be said for a lot of things. Like hog head cheese, redeye gravy, and cat head biscuits. Damn, now I'm hungry.

Kilroy was my favorite fictional character from the book "The Return of the Dog Team" William W Johnstone. Also it has some history from WW2 and .45 because that is the caliber of glock I want to buy when
I'm old enough.

Pipeman, cool story. I've been wondering where your's came from!

Thanks, everyone. Entertaining if nothing else!

most of my family has been in the military but i was the first one to join the infantry so ever since then they either called me infantrymyers or the grunt in the family :D

Foxx, I've always wondered where yours came from. That exact spelling is the last name of a girl I've known most my life and have been courting. That being said, she loved my knives so much I made her one. The handle wrapping has two Fox teeth under it, from one that died of natural causes. Just had to say it.

Anyway, my name comes from two sides of my life. One being Martial Arts, the other being my fascination with nature and Native American beliefs. The Crow or Raven is apparently my "totem" according to a Sioux I had known for a long time. The martial arts side has the Tengu, a Japanese bird demon. Specifically, Karasu-Tengu were Crow demons, but not demons like the western idea. They are more like chaotic spirits, neither good or evil, just there. Supposedly Tengu were masters of the Martial arts, and known to be great warriors as well as Practicing Zen Buddhists. Being neither good or evil, reclusive, and obsessive over the martial arts it just fit. I use this name everywhere, because I hate using my real name online.

Way back when I was fifteen and just perusing the Interwebz on my own and beginning to participate in blacksmithing discussion forums, I chose "Stormcrow" as an appropriately generic name if for some reason I needed to discard the name and come up with something else. I was being cautious. :) No reason to get rid of it, so it has stuck in a few different forms. That was...fourteen years ago. Wow!

TwinStick because i own a 2008 Dodge Power Wagon with twin sticks. Manual shift transfer case & G-56 manual 6-speed transmission.

Well "Captain" was a name given to my drunken alter-ego. Apparently after imbibing the right amount of rum I started telling old tales of my priate days, and nickname stuck. So if you ever have the (mis)fortune of drinking with me, you too may hear "The Tale of The Giant Clam".

In reality this thread was a community builder in the Axe, hatchet and tomahawk forum.

NightMare before X mas was my favorite movie as a kid and I've been collecting that crap forever, I also drive a big lifted Silverado. Easy to remember.

Gooeytek is the name of my company. I am a network admin/consultant, and my online nickname in computer circles is 'ultragooey'.

Parbajtor is hungarian and originally meant a duelling knife, but in modern useage has come to describe an epee.
As I'm half hungarian, a former fencer (ok, a sabreur rather than an epeeist) and I make knives, it seemed like an apt monniker.

Name: Gaz is a nickname based on my last name. 98 was my jersey number in football and basketball.

Avatar: I'm from Detroit, live outside Detroit currently, am a hockey fan, and had the pleasure of watching Stevie Y play his entire career in the winged wheel.

It is my family name. I am Chuck Gollnick of Sherwood, Oregon. I have never wanted -- much less felt the need to -- conceal who I am.

Short version: "Orca" was my navy callsign, and "8589" is the timeframe of my enlistment, 1985-89.

Long version: During that time, I was one of the biggest guys on our crew. The conclusion was made, after a night of drinking, that I was "the largest sea-going mammal anyone had ever seen." It was decided that I would be named "Whale". (I responded by putting the offending name-caller in a headlock - face in my armpit - for fifteen minutes. The jerk bit me twice.)

However, a rather rowdy debate started, since we already had an aircraft nicknamed the "Whale": officially, the A-3 Skywarrior. A squadron back where we had our workspaces had a big guy nicknamed "Moby" (Moby Dick), and the aircraft handler division had a Lieutenant, who was a former college football linebacker, nicknamed "Blue", shortened from "Blue Whale".

So, I became "Orca". In hindsight, it was one of the nicer names our crew came up with. Some of the names we had aren't even appropriate for the Cove here.
