What's in your back pocket?

What do you mean I got it comin' ?? We STOLE this land fair 'n' square from 'em just like they stole it from the folks that were here before them in about 1775/6 after they[ the Lakota ] were kicked outta their homes in Minnesota by their relatives, the Santee Sioux, who could not stand the sight of 'em anymore. And now all they do is whine about it. There is nothing in what I just said that cannot be easily proved. Let it also be noted the other Sioux tribes here on the other reservations--Rosebud; Cheyenne River, Standing Rock; etc--- also cannot stand the sight of the Pine ridge Lakota.
Sometime ask me about the older Lakota woman I helped pick up all her groceries scattered across the WALMART parking lot, put 'em all back in their bags, loaded 'em all in her car, then she tried to hit me with the cardoor when I helped her into her car off the ice. Nice folks....

Whoa, pard, this forum ain't the place to hash all that out. (It was meant as a joke.)

I just meant that you personally had it coming. :D

Now, I think we best move on so as not to venture into territory this forum isn't cut out for... (And leave further exploration for our occasional emails.)

Today, my back pocket holds a Queen Mountain Man.

...that's unusual for me, because my back pocket normally carries a balisong. However, my balisong of choice today is a FHM (Filipino hand-made), which I don't want to smash by sitting on it. The more modern ones with more robust handles can take more abuse, so they normally hang out under my hiney.

I have to confess I have always been a little mystified by back pocket carry.

Sitting on my wallet is bad enough, sitting on a large folder is not comfortable. I always carry in the right side pocket, even when I was packing my old large yellow Eye-Brand soddie. That was almost 5 inches closed, but it fit good in the side pocket. Everytime I tried to carry in the back pocket, the danged knife would fall over sideways when I took out my tobacco pouch or bandana.

Carl.

Hey Jackknife, see post #9 regarding my solution to knives falling to a horizontal position.

Right rear is a Case Amber bone trapper without the spey blade, Left rear is my new Case Ebony Backpocket. Front right is an Amber bone Canoe and left is a black G10 slimline trapper.

I often carry a one-hander clipped to the inside of my back pocket.
I carry a traditional in the right front pocket.

Depending on the thickness of your wallet (I mean the thing itself, not how much cash you have in it) I doubt you'd feel the knife if they're in the same pocket. My bali is a pretty robust critter and yet I forget about it back there. Oh, and as far as sitting on a wallet being uncomfortable, I find that having a pocket-sized 380 in a wallet holster in the other back pocket nicely balances the thickness of my wallet/bali and has me sitting straight up. :)

I think it also has to do with where your "sit bones" are and the cut of your pants. I always have a knife in my back pocket but I don't ever sit on it; even when I'm seated. It's not under my ass, it's off to the side.

A man after my own heart. I'm from SD originally, too. Must be something in the water.

I tell my wife some people carry more than two knives and she thinks I'm crazy. I don't judge, I just don't want my pants to fall down. ;)

While I like the styling of "Back Pocket" knives, I don't find the method of carry all that appealing cuz the knife rubs on my pistol;)

Here, show her this---no, it's not a joke, I emptied my pockets a few minutes ago to take this shot, and it's really what I carry every day. Obviously, the watch and phone aren't in the pockets but they complete my daily "kit" and I always keep the stuff together so I don't have to look for it in the morning. The knives change as the mood grabs me, but the number of them doesn't. So see? She'll be relieved to know you're not crazy! :D

House/work keys on DMT sharpener, pen, SAK in left front pocket
Truck keys, slippie in knife pouch in the right front
Wallet and bali in the back left
Gun in the back right
Large folder clipped in the waistband above the gun
Phone on the belt
Watch on the wrist
Smile on my face and a song in my heart :)

Edit to add: I think I need something for my watch pocket...

I've never tried to carry any knife in my back pocket. I actually tried for a little while to have nothing in my back pockets because my wallet was tweaking my back. I eventually settled on a slimmer wallet on one side and a "rite in the rain" note pad in the other to even each other out.
Maybe some day I'll try a knife back there. I have also carried a .380 in a leather holster which rode about like a thick wallet. Not bad at all really.

Just my wallet. Never been a back pocket knife carrier. Every other pocket, yes, including left and right front trouser pockets, watch pocket, even sometimes the breast pocket on a shirt or jacket in the winter, if the material is thick enough to support the weight.

I agree with Carl. I don't even like sitting on my wallet, much less anything harder and less comfortable. Besides, I don't think it would be as secure as on my front.

Woah. That's pretty impressive. I hope you don't startle easy. ;)

:D

I've only ever issued one unintentional sudden high-pitched squeal in my life (yes, I'm a guy, and a baritone at that) when, sitting down on a rock in the Smokey Mountains after having walked all day, I had an opossum dart out from under said rock between my feet. I imagine he was planning to take off anyway, but all doubt was removed from his mind when he heard my brilliant impression of a psychotic screaming falcon...

As a kid I used to tote around a Schrade LB7 in my back pocket. These days, though, nothing goes back there except maybe some folded up paper towels (handy in general - but especially with little kids around). Any knives go in my front pocket/s and I carry a small wallet with just the barest essentials in my front/left pocket.

"What's in your back pocket"

Funny you should ask. :D It is a back pocket.
This was my first knife from Mike Z and it is next to my wallet today. It does not look the same as it did over 3 years ago since it has been in my carry rotation since then.

All you guys who aren't fond of your knife sitting horizontally... well... that's exactly why back-pocket carry works so WELL with a larger knife (Case trapper, Queen mountain man, etc.). These knives are just the right length to sit horizontally at the bottom, and take up the entire width of the pocket. That's how they're supposed to sit! :)

Usually my Kerry Hampton 4.5" Bose pattern Back Pocket.

Let's just say it was a good thing I didn't have it at the Falcons game Sunday.
My wife would have been pissed if I'd have been sent back to the car.

I mean just because the security guy missed the Buck 110 on the left belt, the Opinel #8 in the left cargo pocket, the Pioneer Harvester in the left front, the Rough Rider canoe in the right cargo pocket, and didn't know the Leatherman Supertool on the right belt has two blades in it... Of course I couldn't take off my rain jacket and flannel shirt inside...

And I intentionally left my sodbusters home!
