What's in your backpacking survival kit?

Tourniquet should always be a last resort. Also how would you apply one to a torso injury? for the size/wieght it seems to me to be a no brainer. But thats just my opinion, and you know what they say about that.

Thanks for the welcome, been a reader for a long time and thought it time to join.

I figure if it's bad enough to need quikclot, I tie a bandanna around it and if that doesn't stop it, the tourniquet comes out.
The bandanna acts as a soopa bandage, providing an absorbent material and pressure in the same package, and if that doesn't stop it, the EMTs/Medivac has been called in, and the guy is gonna bleed out if the bleeding doesn't slow. It is a last resort for me, too. I have seen (and treated) wounds that most people would put quikclot on, and the bandanna with elevation stopped it right up.

Note: I am NOT a medical professional, nor do I intend to make myself sound that way. I just have a bit of experience with people being stoopid with slipjoints that I sharpened for them, that's all. I do what works for me, and I always recommend consulting a real medical professional before asking me for advice.

I hate to be a naysayer especially here on a knife forum, but the reality is you can survive without a knife !!!

Knife is a luxury many don't get to have when they do survive, its a perk, keep one with you !! it will make life easier........... :)
True. I was kinda referring to the Spec-Ops SERE training, where they give you a knife and 2 days to cross a 50 mile swamp undetected. I'd fail miserably.:D
