Whats in your bug out bag ?

I like your thoughts on important documents, don't forget to get them certified if it's a copy. I try to imagine what I would need most from my bag. I don't do alot of camping but do travel. I am putting my bag together and have also included money (small denominations, as well as a visa or american express money card).

i am not gonna post my bob as it has way to much stuff. but i will post what i call my get home bag. its has content that isn't in the pictures because the little helper was steady carting it off. especially the granola bars and honey also some beef jerkey. also i have a complete first aid kit with trauma set up in a ifak inside also a seperate pair of smart wool socks also a 40oz kleen kanteen and gsi cup. this is always with me, at work, on the way to the grocery, anywhere i am it goes, but here it is the pics i managed to get lol with her help.

I've had my bug out bag for a year or so. I keep it near by. I have a good amount of my fixed blade knives in it, just a good place to keep them. In a true bug out bag, I wouldn't obviously need that many. I keep a lot of my camping/survival gear in it.
I'm not going to list everything, I'll mention a few. You can always ask me if there is something your curious about. Cant wait to see what everyone else has !

LOL! A few people here that must really have frustrated their teachers at school. Read the guy's post before coming down on him about where he keeps his knives.

This is awesome I just bought a BOB and I need to figure out what to put in there.

Okay, this is just too funny. Just what is a BOB? Who makes it? Where did you buy it? Did you buy the med or large? What color? Does it say BOB on the outside? Did you get the internal or external frame or no frame? Does it have wheels and handle?
When you walked into store and said "I want a BOB", did they take you to the backpack or suitcase section??

I forgot to add a comment about "sanitation". Most likely anything making you have to bug-home or bug-out will most likely cause some pretty unsanitary conditions (think Haiti or Katrina). A small bottle of hand sanitizer, soap (I like Dr. Bronner's), toothbrush/paste (or baking soda); some foot powder and even a small bottle of iodine (dual purpose) will help to keep the fungus and mitigate some of the infectious vectors.

Here's an old "get-home" kit (it's a Kifaru Scout with a few external pouches):

No issues with the Makarov. I kind of laugh about having a firearm with "common ammo" that's easier to acquire during a major calamity. If it's a serious event, the only ammo you'll get is what you have with you. If you happen to find a box of ammo it will be like finding $1000 if traded to the right person. Just pack enough ammo to get you to your destination...I wouldn't waste time trying to find or buy ammo and I would definitely be avoiding people and confrontations as much as possible.

pack of cards that have edible and poisonous plants of Ohio. Pics on front description on back..these are very good to have.

Out of curiosity, where did you find these cards? You're right, they'd be a handy thing to have.

Wonder if they make any for Southern California?

ROCK6, is that a Camelback pakteen i see there?

very nice kit, can you do a review on the Scout>?

Six fixed blades is really overkill in my opinion.

Agreed! I carried seven in my pack today to a meeting (about knife designs)...no way I'd hump that extra weight in the bush!

That said, I do keep extra blades around to equip friends and family if needs be.

Spot on Bushman! Yeah, I need to do a review...I've used it hunting twice and you can get a lot of weight in one quite comfortably...

Yes they do. OK, so I misspoke, sort of. I have edible and poisonous plants of the eastern states. They make one for the western states. Putting the ebay link on here, Its where I got mine. Thought I got them slightly cheaper. Anyway, it lets you know where to get them. Enjoy

i have a Go Bag...it is light on wilderness survival; emphasis on urban survival...the primary items: documentation, netbook, prepaid cell phones, change of clothes, couple folders, a surefire LED, and several thousand $$$...

I'm going to go against the grain here, with new-for-me concept. I don't need all that gear to get the hell out. Seriously, I've known this for a long time, but this morning it really kicked in. I ran 10 miles this morning. I think that's far enough to get out of immediate danger. Maybe not far enough to be in a a totally safe zone, but it's probably a good start in getting there.

I don't carry a E&E kit, and haven't for a long time. Now, there are things that I have in my vehicle, which are mainly tools to fix vehicle issues, gas can, large container for water, etc. Also, there are things that I carry every day like extra glasses, water bottles, asprin, a couple knives like a SAK and a Delica. These things I carry in a lumbar pack, mainly because it's small and messinger bag like. I don't consider this BOB stuff, though.

The other thing that I have with me every day is my running/gym gear. The ability to move efficiently and quickly and cover long distance is the main thing I would need.

So, really, my E&E kit is essentially my running shoes. To build on the concept of "Me" being the only necessity I "need" to E&E, here's what I carried on my run today:

Gregory Wassatch running pack.
Wallet, keys, phone, pen
Spyderco Delica
Protein Bar, $.99 trail mix pack
16oz water bottle w/ Propel mix
Glasses, and sun Glasses
Go Lite running hat

That's what I had this morning, and the Propel mix was more than enough to get me 10 miles, with half the bottle remaining. After the run, I ate the trail mix.

I will add 1 cravat, 1 roll of gause, an extra pair of socks, and a zip loc bag to hold stuff that cannot get wet. I have a ultra-light water resistant pull-over that could also go in there. I could also add a few more Propel packets and food bars, water-pur tablets, maybe a little larger water bottle, a compass, a bic lighter, a few feet of 550 cord, but that's about it.

I'm not saying that everyone doesn't need the redundant knives, water, food, guns, clothes, bomb-proof pack, etc. I'm just saying that I feel like I don't need all that stuff, and that I'm confident that I can move light and fast for a long time with just my stuff, weighing under 5lbs.

Now, the thing that I don't take into consideration is getting injured, other than being able to sling an arm or stop bleeding with the cravat and gause. But, I think any of us with a serious mobility injury would be in trouble, even with any amount of gear.

EDIT:

I should also say that we all have different requirements because of location, weather, realistic disasters, etc. I'm in central Florida. The weather is mild, although rain is an issue all year long, heat is an issue most of the year, and cold is an issue off and on for just a few months. It's also not the big city here, nor is it rural with vast stretches where you see no signs of human existence. It's overall suburban. there are plenty of places to get out of the sun and rain, to get water, and to hide from people if need be. You can even get some type of food just about anywhere in the entire state.

Im probably in the minority here but my target weight for my BOB is 50 lbs. Everyone seems to have different needs.
