What's in your Knife sheath pouch?

I have a diamond knife sharpener in mine, but there is room for more. I am looking for good ideas, so I figure that I would ask those who would know. What else should I consider? Also, does this extra pouch, which is removable on my Benchmade 156, have a specific name?
Thanks All.
Dave.

Kinda depends where you go with it on but a fire steel and tinder are a good idea, possible some high vis string you could tie on trees to find your way out should you need it. Strong string or cord is always helpful. Multitool? FOX40 whistle (slim)

Whistle
Magflint block
button compass
condoms
MP1 tabs

Its a grab and go with the basics kit.

Thanks all, great ideas, but I have to ask skammer - condoms??? are you just luckier than most of us?

Condoms can be used to hold/transport water.

Several survival books reference their use for water collection.

Well...., if there is room for a strike force and tender that's a good choice because you can get better sparks from a strikeforce than a magnesium firestarter (I have more than one of each, they're in different packs and bags, and in our vehicles) when used as flint and steel however in my opinion a magnesium firestarter is superior in value in a survival situation because it is it's own tender, and functions well under bad weather conditions where as simple flint and steel is much more sensitive to weather

I have a DMT diamond hone, a SOG Powerplier, & a SAK in my Spec Ops sheath pocket. That combo goes nicely with the BK7. Sometimes i'll swap out the SOG powerplier for a large lighter and bag full of cottonballs for starting fire.

You talk about your books but where are your facts? Survival is about experience not book reading.

My own fact is that condoms are very hard to fill for me, much easier to go with a plastic Turkey oven bag or Ziplocks.

I've filled oven bags up and beat them up. The facts on double zipper Zip-locks over the slidder tab Zip-locks is that when both were tossed into a tub about 3 feet away the bag burst open sending the slider flying while the double Zip-lock bag remained closed. Any Zip-lock bag will open with enough force but the double zipper ones are the ones I now use.

Reynolds oven bags are Wilderness Learning Center approved. Marty has taken one filled with water and banged it inside of a shower to test the durability. They are very very sturdy, resist heat and deterioration and hold a lot of water.

Take one and fill it with a quart of water. Measure the fill point and use it as a reference when tracing with a permanent marker. This way, you know how much a quart is for water purification tabs.

The condom is a decent water container if conditions are right. If you have a large body of water or a fast moving stream, you can fill it using a quick push through the water. However, what happens if there is only a trickle of water? The Reynolds bags are already open to full-size and can be filled to capacity with even dripping water. Another benefit is the ability to use one as a transpiration bag. Not as easy with a condom. Again, condoms are better than nothing but not best.

The Reynold's bags are great and if you need more space, simply trim the top of the bag to suit your needs. I keep one in my PSK trimmed down to hold about 2 quarts of water.

Knowledge has to be acquired from somewhere. Not all of us have been through military survival training or own all the survival training available on video.

Besides, I never said I used them for the purpose indicated. It's just one of many ways. This forum is about passing on knowledge when it comes to survival or bushcraft and what others have found that works or not works, so I don't understand why you're being so hostile. :(

Survival is something I hope I never have to experience, but if I am in that situation at least I would have the knowledge and skill to better prepare myself which is what it is really all about.

Condoms aren't so bad. They very small and light. The packaging is designed to be carried for long period of time without damage to the condom. Being former military, I can tell you that people get "lucky" in some mighty strange environments. I am pretty sure that sex ranks above water as a life priority on the the rule of threes.....

In my RAT 7 pouch I have;

1 Wet fire tinder
3 Tinder quick
Swedish Firesteel LG
Vic Farmer
Photon II

sir james...no need to get snippy...I happen to agree that condoms are not the best choice...but I'd also rather people read books than not do anything...the world don't move to the beat of just one drum...happy holidays

The best water containers I have ever used are the Gerber breast milk bags 1/3 a quart each. They are tough and dont break open at the zip. Much better than zip lock sandwich bags as these are made for liquid.

As for condoms though there are better options there is no better option for tight spaces, they pack down to nothing out of the wrapper thus they are carried in EDC pocket kits. As far as filling them, its practice, I have filled them in a shallow puddle.
No more than a quart per condom.
