What's in your Linen closet?

Alright, so other than Res-C, I have to say that my favorite feeling material is the different varieties of Linen Micarta. Not canvas, not paper, but Linen.

Here's mine, one tigerhide linen SAR 4, one green linen Banned Ratweiler (my first Rat BTW) and one black linen SARsquatch. Now show me your Linens, but not your sheets!

I love Black paper for look and feel, Res-C for long use



But my favorite material is linen. I find it kinda sticky, like a widow's web.

and it looks cool.

Yes he is. I used to have an AK that he did. It was absolutely mind boggling how sharp it was. I let it go but I kept it in the family so I know where it is. After I did though I wanted another piece he had worked on. I had to choose between paying to get a blade done by Ban or just finding one already done. I lucked out finding this one already done AND already used so I wouldn't feel bad putting it to work.

only linen I have is my SARQ. I sure love it. I just wonder why the linen is not offered on more models. Or as an option ever. It is a great balance between the materials. The material looks better than the canvas, but still feels grippy and warm.

Top one is G10, the bottom one is Canvas Micarta.

Linen is Micarta, but notice on the blades shown how fine the fabric weave is. Linen Micarta has a definite feel and visual texture that is hard to beat.

Tan Smooth Linen Magnum grips on a FSH Variant ... possibly the most comfortable "user grips" Busse do ....

Tigerhide Smooth Linen Magnum's on a SFNO 1-300 ....

Black Linen Magnums ( smoothed by me ) on a FBM LE blank military over run from Knob Creek ....

Black Linen Magnum's ( slightly smoothed by me ) on a stripped and fully convexed NMSFNO ....

Black linen (again slightly smoothed ) on a stripped BWM with a sharpened clip .... the marks on the blade are from "sap" which gives a blueish stain ....

KZII modified and stripped with smooth black linen ....

Stripped NMFBM with smooth magnum black linen grips ....

I wonder the same thing. I haven't asked but my guess is it is either more expensive/harder to make, or just harder to obtain. It is nice stuff for sure.

Looks like Moss coating/OD Green G10 stacked on Black coating/Black Canvas. See the picture below for the burlap weave look even on the side profile, that is how you determine canvas vs linen.

This one looks like it is a very beautiful sample of black canvas based on the large weave pattern and spacing between the rings, but I could be mistaken. Still a great looking blade!

Yup, beautiful sample of Black Linen! :thumbup: Notice how the sides of the slabs are very smoothly blended fine lines, like sheets of fine silk or linen laid down on each other & compressed. Awesome handles and I would love to see a shot of that entire AK!

edit: You added a new post while I have been typing this and you can see the smaller percale or thread count in the handles of the AK so it is definitely black linen. Again, amazing blade there!

The SARsquatch with those linen handles just makes for a really sweet user. After the SAR 6, it's my favorite of all the midsized blades.

The tiger hide(a.k.a. tiger stripe) scales are canvas micarta.

In 2005, I believe that was an accurate statement. The FBM LE & FSH LE are couple canvas tigerhide examples I can think of. I think the SJTac LE & BATAC LE were also, but I am doing this from memory so I could have a couple mixed up.

Examples released after 2005 that have Linen Tigerhide are: NMFBM LE, SFNO LE (1/300), ASH-1 LE, NMSFNO LE, SAR 4/6/8 LE among others.

Peter, you were one of the ones that sold me on the linen handles for feel. That black linen FSH I got from you was very comfy. Is that SAR 8 linen or g10? It's pretty either way.

It's good stuff, but very rarely offered anymore, kinda like snakeskin.

These are two linens that got away from me that I miss.
A pair of FSH's in old school Green Linen and newer Black Linen.
