What's in your liquor cabinet?

There's a vid out there of Conan O'Brien visiting Hunter S Thompson at his ranch, having some target practice and drinking whiskey. Not often do you see someone literally say "Careful with that M16, you almost spilled your drink" (I'm paraphrasing, it's been a while since I saw it...)

Makers Mark & some Crown, don't drink much but on special ocassions.... :)

When I came back from Germany in 1971, after being on a three year drunk, I promised myself not to drink the hard stuff. Since that time, I'll bet I haven't drank two fifths (almost 39 years).

Now beer is something altogether different. I don't have a liquor cabinet, but I have a spare fridge that is full of "cool-ones". (Can't sleep well at night unless I have at least a case cooling down):D

A lot of what I have is home made. I purchased 6 gallons of Pinot Noir grape juice from Yamhill Vineyards about 4 years ago and made my own version of their Pinot Noir. I still have about a dozen bottles of that left in my wine rack. I also have a 48 bottle wine cooler that my wife got me for Christmas one year. It is about 2/3rds full of 90+ point (scored by Wine Spectator) wines in a variety of types and vintages. I always have just the right wine for any dinner party that my wife and I throw.

My favorite is a wine called Frost Fire from Breitenbach Winery in the Amish Country of Ohio. It's like drinking a white grape with frost on it. Sweet, clean and spectacular. I'm a dry wine fan for the most part, but this stuff is my favorite.

I always have some kind of specialty microbrews in the fridge too. In the liquor cabinet we have Jack Daniels (My wifes favorite), SC, Gin, and Frangelica. I love a small snifter of Frangelica on ice after a steak dinner.

We don't drink much though. We have plenty of alchohol, but don't drink very often. Maybe one drink a week for me and one every other week for my wife.

Now, in my younger days, it was common to have a couple of beers every night, but not anymore. I only purchase beer in six packs, unless I'm having a party. If I were to buy a 12 pack, it would last for 3 or 4 months.

I rarely drink anymore... maybe a half dozen small glasses of whiskey a year; neat, no ice. Some years it's none at all.
In a cabinet full of every kind of stuff, I have drank only whiskey for the last 30 years. The three that still interest me are a bottle of Buffalo Trace "Collectors Edition" Kentucky straight bourbon, Jack Daniels Single Barrel, and Bushmills Black Bush Irish whiskey.
They'll last me the rest of my life.
