When you go bumming around the woods, be it a hike or 3 day trek, what do you keep in your pockets and on your immediate person?

This means that lumbar packs, large pouches, shoulder bags and backpacks don't count! Only what you would have on you after settling down into a site. Small belt pouches and belt knives do count, however.

For me, I keep my Mora 510 around my neck almost always. My pockets house a compass, jute twine, an SAK and a firesteel. My back pocket always has my bandanna in it.

So whatcha got? Is that a Busse in your pocket or are you just happy to see the trail head? :p

I always have a knife (BM mini grip) Photon light, BSA Hot Spark and some tinder quick in my pockets.

Edit; forgot the mini Bic

usually i have a mini-bic, my watch w/ a suunto compass on the band and my benchmade mini-griptillian....

i don't know if my keychain counts or not.. i always have them on my belt loop... attached to my keys is a:

-SAK classic
-small LED light
-BSA hotspark w/striker
-bison whistle
-small h2o proof pill vial, with a tinder quick, some hooks, splitshots and some spider wire...:D

Simonich Bitteroot with a little sparky attached is always around my neck. Either my Mora around my neck or SAK in my pocket. Both have a mini compass attached and another little sparky. And a bandana.

Lessee, today my cargo pants LF pocket holds a Camillus made WWII utility knife. RF pocket holds a lip balm, bic lighter and keys. RR pocket holds my leather gloves & HD drum liner. LR pocket my wallet. LC pocket holds an LED flashlight, 10' 550 shroud line and a bandana. RC pocket holds a pouch that contains a Vic Hunter SAK w/hotspark attached and a compass topped match safe that holds a couple pieces of the spark-lite tinder and sewing/fishing kit.

SAK Fireman, whistle and photon light on its lanyard

Extensive mini pocket survival kit.

In fact that is a Busse... err... make that two Busses, in my pocket. :D

Let's see:

In one pocket, I keep my PSK:

In another pocket, I have a keychain, with a firesteel, a piece of fatwood, a whistle, a compass, a p38; and a Busse Pepper Shaker, (or sometimes, a Busse Assault Shaker, instead).

In a third pocket, I have a variety of bits of photo gear miscellany (cable release, methanol, wipes, level, CF cards, notebook, etc.), and a smart phone, some of which can also be helpful for emergency use.

On my belt, I have a flashlight, and a knife (sometimes a Scrapyard Dumpster Mutt, sometimes a Busse PBF, sometimes a Swamp Rat INFIcoot, sometimes a Scrapyard Scrapper 6, sometimes a Scrapyard SS4... depends on where I'm going and what I'm doing).

not nec for the woods but but I edc in my pockets...a vic farmer ona braided paracord lanyard,a bic lighter, a (mini match magnesium firestarter) a fox 40 whistle, A small baseplate compass, a mini mag solitaire, and 30 feet of paracord wrapped around a small bid of wood...and a wallet, thats the stuff I carry on my person everyday, to compliment what I have in my shouler bag hen in the city or my back pack when in the bush,

I always have at least pocketable knife (SAK, folder or multitool) and some sort of fire starting tool (lighter, matches or firesteel) at a minimum for a walk in the woods.

EDC: Leatherman on my belt. 3mm cord braid, one of those LED lights, and a firesteel on my keys.
I need to get back in the habit of carrying a compass on my watch or on my leatherman case.
Most days: spyderco endura 4 and bic wrapped with a few wraps of duct tape and 550 on a 550 lanyard.
Work: small kit on belt, medium kit in my Camelback Mule.

I hate carrying things in my pocket, so most of of what I carry is in the daypack or the pockets on the CamelBak Ambush. But here goes:

Keys (has a small Inova light on the key chain)
Wallet
Handkerchief
Phone-(Sometimes this go in the pack though)
bug spray
hand cleaner

I keep the bug spray and the hand cleaner available, but the rest goes into a pack.

Great question!

Depends on the purpose of my excursion. Typically the list might look like this for a day-trip (I seldom do any overnighters):

Pants pocket: Folding knife, handkerchief, a length of braided cord...and quite often, a few rounds of ammo.

Shirt pocket: notebook and pencil, and maybe some earplugs (working with machinery,or if I get time to insert them before I shoot a bigger rifle). Sometimes a ziploc bag containing a mini Bic lighter, some small fishhooks and some fishing line.

Around my neck: mini LED flashlight with 'squeeze' operation, watch, and Marbles trout and bird knife...and sometimes my vehicle key.

In small backpack: plastic bags for meat, trapping gear if trapping, bottle of water, cellphone, bandaids, sharpening stone and a few other handy small items in a screw-top jar, a poncho, and a hat and extra clothes as appropriate. Possibly my mini-binoculars, digital camera and a decent flashlight or headlamp if I anticipate coming back near dark.

Around my waist: small fixed blade and maybe something like a golok or khukuri.
