Im not sure if this is the appropriate place for this thread, but here I go anyways. What do you guys keep in your vehicles? What do you drive, whats in it, and why?

Whatever I'm carrying with me...because it's the city bus. ;)
In the backpack I usually have:
-30 feet of paracord
-1 liter of water
-Stainless steel bottle of water, 500mL (for drinking or boiling)
-Ferro rod
-Bic lighter
-Whistle
-Swisschamp
-Small fixed blade knife (2 inch blade)
-Hand sanitizer

Plus pens, a book, and whatever other stuff I'm carrying.

For me, it depends on the season. Most of the year, in addition to my EDC (handgun, folding knife, multitool) I usually have the following:

- small AAA "tactical" flashlight
- cheap fixed blade knife (currently a Frost Cutlery POS) suitable as a single-use defensive tool
- StatGear T3 seatbelt cutter/knife/window punch
- spare hiking shoes
- dedicated first aid kit
- dedicated tool kit
- "get home" kit: spare clothes, underwear and socks in sealed plastic bags, steel canteen, paracord, prybar, large "tactical" flashlight, ranger bars, poncho and gloves . . . among other things

In the winter, I also have a cold weather kit with things like wool hat, wool mittens, thermal hoody, etc.

Spyderco military for cutting up food, a leatherman PS4 for fixing my glasses and trimming nose hairs, and a spare tire.

Altoids tin with fire starting materials in glove box. Also included is a Mora with fatwood and a fero rod taped to it. This along with several lighters. Extra clothes, a tarp, a splitting axe and hatchet in the trunk. I specifically bought a Fiskars x25 splitter and their tiny hatchet as trunk back up beater axes. I have a much more elaborate set up for winter. Over the top ? Have a vehicle break down in the middle of nowhere during crap weather. It's as simple as tossing a serpentine belt off by going through deep snow and having it pack up around it , which I have done.

Cell phone, number to 24/7 emergency roadside assistance on label tape on visor, spare/jack/lugwrench in trunk, flash light in glove box, tire gauge in glove box, registration, and proof of insurance in glove box. If I'm in the car I'll almost guarantee there's a cup of joe or glass of iced tea in there too.

Whatever the current owner/theif has put in it after it was stolen and never found 8 years ago. Had my second DWI at the time and didn't want to drive it around illegally and didn't have a place to live either so left it on my family farm and some POS decided to steal it. Planning on getting my license back and a vehcile again in the near future.

I'm in the process of cleaning out my work vehicle and the one I drive the most, so I sort of know what is in there now. Prior to this, I wasn't really sure. This is what I found; cordless recip saw, corded recip saw, 3/8" cordless electric drill (2), corded electric drill, skil saw, three shovels, couple of tarps, furniture pads (3), two tool boxes filled, lots of drifferent sized screws, three or four sets of bit drivers, electric converter to plug computer in, first aid kit (3), caution tape, wood stakes, two pairs of hard toe shoes, couple pairs of tennis shoes, couple of changes of clothes, umbrella, rain gear (4 sets), sleeping pad, sweat shirt, small 2800 Watt generator, 5 or 6 boxes of disposal gloves, maps, gps, cell phone charger, four or five knives, handgun, ammo, pipe cleaners, tape measures, laser measurer, cleaning stuff (brushes, detergent, 5 5-gallon buckets, rake, scraper (2), squeegie large and four of five small, disposal tyveks and paper suits, painting supplies, case of water, cooler, 150 feet of garden hose, extra nozzles, about 200 feet of extention cords, brooms (3 or 4), big box full of all kinds of small stuff that gets lost like circuit testers, bolt cutters, pipe wrenches, .... and there was more.... going to try to cut this down a bit. Just too much weight. I think Codger and I must be related. :D

Fishing gear behind the seat, a sweater on a hanger, piles of fast food wrappers and pop cans, junk mail, and assorted trash, plus a box of jewelry, from cleaning out my late mother's apartment. She died 2 years ago. I really should find something better to do with that.

Well that is when my truck is unloaded. I have a LWB truck with front cross bed box, two full (deep) side boxes, two big bed boxes, all aluminum diamondplate. Amazing what you can get in there out of sight, out of the weather and under locks. I've been going through the truck the last few days throwing stuff away. And finding stuff I haven't seen in a year. The rest resides in a 12x12 tool building lined with shelves, racks and a countertop. Mo tools and parts.

For the past few years, mostly baby/toddler gear...which means not much else. Too little for the trails yet, which means my trail time has gone exponentially down (convincing the lady of the house to just stay and watch the little ones by herself all day while I go off hiking is kind of a tough sell).

That being said, I do have some basics in the vehicles...flashlight, gloves, blankets, etc.

Recently, a sporting good shop did have a sale on some small backpacks and I picked up a couple. I plan to set up some basic 'get-home/stranded' type bags. Change of clothes, travel toothbrush/toothpaste, fresh socks/underwear, some cliff bars, couple of bottles of water, modest multi-tool or knife, flashlight, baby wipes, lighters, some cord, couple other little helpful things. Not planning for the zombie hordes, but if something comes up and I have to spend the night somewhere, nice to have stuff.

And we have two SUV's, both 4x4's. Smaller runabout one, and ginormas family hauler.

Cheers,
BOSS

Geeze, Codger . . .

You and the .22-rimfire guy are better stocked than our local hardware store.
