Whats in your vehicle?

Geeze, Codger . . .

You and the .22-rimfire guy are better stocked than our local hardware store.

Hardware? Yes, drivit anchors, lead anchors and lag screws, an assortment of concrete screws (Tapcons) and nails, stainless bolts, nuts and washers, gaskets and o-rings and seals of every description, electrical bonding lugs, split bolts and ground rod clamps, motor capacitors, plumbing pressure testing equipment, a tap and die set, pool cleaning equipment... I have a lot of hardware and tools to install it. I build and service swimming pools. Leaving a job to go to a hardware supplier for hardware or a tool is a no-no.

Altoids tin with fire starting materials in glove box. Also included is a Mora with fatwood and a fero rod taped to it. This along with several lighters. Extra clothes, a tarp, a splitting axe and hatchet in the trunk. I specifically bought a Fiskars x25 splitter and their tiny hatchet as trunk back up beater axes. I have a much more elaborate set up for winter. Over the top ? Have a vehicle break down in the middle of nowhere during crap weather. It's as simple as tossing a serpentine belt off by going through deep snow and having it pack up around it , which I have done.

Upnorth,
I certainly can appreciate the preparedness mindset. You never know when things will go wrong or where. Too many people think that their cell phone or AAA will get them out of jam so they don't need to worry about the extra stuff. And for the majority of the time they are probably right. However, cell phone coverage is not a guarantee in all areas or under all circumstances. It is in those chance occurrences that really test your forward-thinking and self-reliance. I say this because I too have experienced a serpentine belt failure and I had no cell reception and was hours way from any resources. In short, if I did not have the right tools and a spare belt it would have been in really bad situation.
