Pretty much as said in title! Whats the most expensive knife out there? For you info crazed guys.. lemme know 1) folder 2) fixed blade 3) sword.... custom, old time, whatever it may be. Just curiuos as what is the most expensive is all :)

Those Angel swords are magnificent. They vary from $1000 to $9000 for one sword. I wish I could afford one.

Sam Huston's bowie sold recently at auction for something like $270,000. Do a search here at bf.c and you'll find a discussion and pictures.

Rick Eaton had a very nice folder at Bladeshow last year for $88,000.

The penultimate, however, would probably be Jim Bowie's knife it is ever found.

There is alot more to this than the physical art. Pieces with significant historical provenance, and real symbolic worth, are priceless.

exactly, i would expect something with historical significance to be the most expensive something like jim bowie's knife like gollnick said. Besides the historical blades it's not rare to see swords go upwards of 10k. Also it all depends on what you want on the knife, many custom makers will add precious gems and metals to the blade that can add to the cost. Therefore, you can have a knife encrusted with diamonds that could be worth millions

trust me you dont want one (there a flat out rip off), they claim mystical properties etc with there swords but there real ass'. a friend that is a sword smith met them and he said to the smith that he also made swords and the guy said "well you didnt make these" than walked off (he was just trying to make friendly chat), i personally wont deal with ass holes no matter how good there product supposably is. but if you want expensive howard clarks stuff is extremely expensive but high quality and his site is www.mvforge.com :). plus kevin cashens pattern welded blades are maxing a very high price but once again great work and both kevin and howard are great guys to chat on forums etc with.

as i said i wont deal with an ass hole/stuck up smith, most smiths i have dealt with are very friendly and willing to have a chat but theres always a few that are too stuck up to talk with anyone about there products if you enquire about a piece then you just get turned completely off everything they sell (well i do). your better off going for a raven armoury piece, there waiting time is long but there products IMO look just as good if not better than angel swords plus there prices are more reasonable....plus they aint stoners who claim magical forging process' :p http://www.raven-armoury.co.uk/home.html <=====link to raven armoury.

Jot Singh Khalsa built a sword a few years ago that reportedly had 60k worth of damascus, gold and gems in it. It resides in a museum in India.

Well, of course a knife's value can be inflated either by historical significance or any amount of gems or gold, but maybe the better question is, what are the most expensive knives/swords that arent historically significant and havent been excessively embellished with gems/gold. I would say that the very high-end Japanese swords are near the top, Hartsfield Katanas sell for $15,000 and higher and thats with no gems, gold, damascus etc. And im sure there are some true masters that i havent even heard of that make swords for far more.

But, think about it for a minute. A katana is basically some tool steel, some ray skin which is very inexpensive, possibly a silver menuki, also cheap to buy and make, and then a differential temper. Very little spent on materials and yet, the $15,000 price tag. People bitch about Strider getting $250-$300 for their fixed blades because its too much for the materials, well, how about a $15,000 Hartsfield katana? Im not saying i dont want one, or that $15,000 is too much, but its a great example of how the cost of materials has little or nothing to do with the value of a knife.

That would INDEED be the most expensive...in my book anyway!

Well in production folders I would probably have to say that the BM 960-08 at 600$ US is up there in the non custom made knife.

For a folder would be an art knife by Van Barnett at the Solvang custom show last year. It was around 10K and awesome. For a fixed knife it would be one of Buster/ Julie Warenski's pieces also fondled at the Solvang show. I don't remember the exact price, but I'm sure it was over 10K as well.

BM49-SPL was a bit more than that.

Some of Microtech's high-end autos also well exceed that.

Odd...when I talked with them at the Vegas Classic, they were very friendly!

If I'm not mistaken..., Albion currently now has all the original patents for both Conan Swords used in the movie (not the prop swords). One is for sale at over $300K, but I don't recall the exact price ($330K I believe). Pricey considering it has a "ding" in the blade :)....

well after i heard about my friends experience at a ren fair where they had a stand i'm totally turned off them (forever, plus that BS they say about there blades)...he thinks they were pee'd off cause he had a stand up offering fantasy blades at a fraction of there prices (afraid of the competition, as they should be :p)...but i saw one of Howard Clarks folders sell in the thousands and his tanto blades unpolished sell for $500+ then you have to pay to get it polished which can run into the thousands alone.

this one is $438 then you have to pay a lot to get it polished.
