What's my Budget, What is my knife?

I'm looking for ANY Busse knife capable of handling harsh tasks involved in camping, hunting, survival and anything else that would force you to depend on a knife. I'm also on a tight budge because someone I know is being a cheap ass, and thinks you can get a good 6" fixed blade for less than $200.

I'm familiar with all the typical Busses in this categorie (ie SAR-q, Skinny, SAR6...etc) but which one can be had, typically, for the absolute cheapest? Used of course... Eventually I'm going to take it to the WTB section for said knife. Lets say anything from SAR4 sized on up.

Edit - And when I say budget, what is the lowest I can expect. I think $200 may be way too low. Maybe not.

You'll be hard-pressed to find a 6-inch Busse Combat for less than $200, but if it doesn't have to be INFI, you should be able to find a Swamp Rat or Scrap Yard knife (still in the Busse family) that'll meet your needs. The last 'ganza featured some beautiful 6.5-inch Military Overrun Regulators that sold out in under two minutes for $78.95. Keep looking -- be at the right place, at the right time, and you'll find something to suit you.

As Iboschi noted, RatManDus are a great knife; I think they're a little under 6-inches, but are a Swamp favorite and Eric posted that he has some more in stock over in the Swamp Rat sub-forum.

I know you said 6" and under $200, but I bet you could get a used comp finish SARSquatch for maybe less than $250...

If not, I'd go for a RatManDu or maybe a Scrapper 5.

Scrapper 5 LE is about the closest you will find in INFI if you can find a user. They go quick though whenever you do find them at $200 or less.

No Busse's under $200, try Swamprat or Scrap yard

First thing that came to my mind, fwiw...

Check Ebay; I found a SH-E, basically like new w/ sheath, and was amazed at the price I got it for. It can't hurt to check.

I'll have to check that out. I own a Ratmandu, and I love it. Its just below what I'd consider a choppable design. I'm trying to convince my brother that he has to raise his budget a little.

The RMD and S5 are great knives. I think they fall short of the category he's looking at though. Ok, thanks guys. Any more input is welcome.

Well... in the time it took me to post this thread and read the replies, I mentioned the SAR-6 to him in passing... apparently he went to the company store and ordered a Red/Black G10.... ok terrific... so much for telling me your budget was $200. Sure wish my first was a SAR6. Must be nice. :D

Another Busse victim... er, I mean Fan!!! :D

Glad to hear he "cheaped out" and went with the sar 6.

For the price, he could have cruised the exchange and probably gotten a cheaper piece of infi.

I for one love the squatch!,

But he won't be disappointed with the Sar6. Although he is getting spoiled with a satin finish, and a sharp factory convex edge on his first Busse. He won't know what he is missing spending days had convexing a beast of a chopper, like the KZII or a FFBM.

Imagine that... he must have held your 6. ;) Awesome first piece of INFI!

And BFT is right... the Squatch is impressive in it's own right and he is missing out on a lot of personalized attention customizing his first. That black linen is nice too! I finally spotted one in this neck of the woods and if it was factory satin convexed and had thumb jimping it would be better than the SAR 6 since a little of the bubble butt weight was shifted into the chopping department with almost the same overall length and only an ounce heavier. For now let's just say they both equally impressive. It must be SAR family tradition, except for maybe that redheaded step child SAR 4. :barf: :D Now we just need 9-11 inch Battle SAR to fill the top of the series.
