There's a Kershaw Fourm???

Whats the general feelings on the 1420 series, I've been seeing alot of them on eBay going for well below their SRP. I've got the 1421ST which has the Bottle opener thumb slot. I think that it is the smartest thing I've seen on a knife for everyday carry/utility use.

Any word on the Kershaw Forum?

Thanks,

have a"knife"day

I handled the new Kershaw-Onions briefly at the SHOT Show. The two with that guard on the blade scare me a little.

In the closed position, the guard sticks up through the back of the handle. A nudge on the guard there, as well as a nudge on the thumb stud, will cause the torsion bar to assist the blade open in that cool near-automatic manner. On the specimens I handled, there wasn't much resistance to push past before the torsion bar took over. So I wonder if that means there are now two ways it can accidentally open in one's pocket.

At least on an automatic the release button is tyhpically recessed.

I have an Avalanche on the way and I am looking forward to it. I saw an Avalanche at GPknives and it is defenitely the most impressive of the 440V speed safe knives I have seen so far. The fit is extremely tight and the lockup is very solid. The blade is bead blasted and the G-10 scales have a very rough finish. These knives would be very difficult to slip out of one's hand. As Ken Onion said, this knife is definitely a high quality version of the Whirlwind. I think it will be the best production speed safe knife yet.

James, Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.

I'm sorry to read about possible safety problems with that Boa. It's not something one without possibility to handle the knife would think in first place. Ken wrote that Boa will see some changes before the production model'll be out. I hope that Ken and Kershaw use some of this time to adjust mechanism.

Boa has been #1 in my waiting list since first rumor about it spread. Now it is #2.

I'll end buying it this year anyway - My wallet and logic part of my mind have no chance against my pleasure center that eagerly waits for new fix.

Anthony,
are you saying that Avalanche can be ordered already??? WHERE??? I have been waiting for better Whirlwind for ever.

Ok I'm a newbie to knife collecting. But I've spent my time researching blade materials, handles materials and general knife designs, I haven't been out handling lots of knives mostly just look at shops unless I'm really serious about buying. I'm really impressed and slightly weary, I came close to catching my thumb on the edge as it slips away when I try to open it like I do my normal single handed opening knives. Of course I'll need to adjust. I was shocked by the lower quality blade material in the Whirlwind.

I'm curious however with the blade design of the "Boa" does the shortend blade height near the thumb stud and the guard make it feel safer when opening with thumb stud and closing one handed? Also does the "guard that sticks up through the back of the handle when closed", create a problem/possibility of accidental opening when placing in pocket of snug jeans?

Can't wait to see and handle them myself!!!

May need to bust the wallet on this one.

PS
This is one knife I don't want a bottle opener on.
