Everyone has contributed so much at this point that I doubt my oppinion is worth much... However my suggestion,

Get him a Victorinox Rambler. It adds a Phillips Screwdriver W/ Bottle opener to the tools he already has on his Classic. (I think you said he had a Classic right??)

If you want to get him just a blade, minus the gadgets, Spyderco makes a great keychain knife in their Jester. I love that thing.

Also that Al Mar Osprey w/ Pearl handle looks really nice as well, although I have no experience with it. (Al Mar has a good rep though, so you should do fine if you choose it.)

Keys to my Ranger, my Wife's Honda CRV, our house, family beach house, plus a handcuff key and LM Micra.

My keys and an old P-38 can opener. It gets used more than my electric can opener! It's also doubles as a pry bar for paint cans etc. and a screwdriver. All that for like .40 cents.

I like to keep my keys relatively light, so they carry only my "emergency backup" items:
Swiss-Tech Utili-key
Photon II: red

Three keys and the alarm remote, that's all. I read somewhere that over weighted key rings/chains promote premature ignition switch failure. I use to have a bunch of stuff on mine, but after having to replace the ingnition switch on my car, I have lightened up.

I agree.Only a few keys, car remote and an ASP light on my keyring.tom.;)
