Whats one knife you'd bet your life on???

Oh it's just fun stuff guys, lets not get too serious. I would definitely say my Survive! 5.1 in 3V IF I had only one. My 4.1 in M390 is awesome, but in a "survival" situation I think the extra size and the 3V would be better. That said, a Busse of good size is hard to beat any day.

I'd bet my life on several knives I own. I don't see how people are willing to "bet their lives" on all these tactical knives which look like they were never used or apparently only used once. Why are all those black coatings still intact?

Here's one of the knives I'd bet my life on, and I've actually used it. This is a JK Kephart in O1. I don't know how hard it is, but I'm guessing 60rc or around there, maybe a tad higher. Feels very hard when sharpening, and I sharpen a lot of knives, so I have gotten pretty good at guessing. You'd have to ask JK for the details. When I first got it, I cleaned it really well and saw a distinct hamon, meaning it was differentially heat treated. Very nice. Not necessary on this type of knife, but very nice. The spine is squared and hard, nice for firesteels. 1/8 O1 is seriously hardcore. This thing is built like a tank. I think it's a little roughly finished for my taste (lots of grind marks and stuff on places that rust easily like the ricasso and overly squared edges on the handle). I think ML does a better job of fit and finish (I own both the JK and ML Kepharts, so I know what I'm talking about), but as far as the tool itself is concerned, I would 100% bet my life on this JK knife. I'm currently grinding down the sides flat and going to polish them and then black patina the blade with a hot apple cider vinegar treatment. I might sand the handles down smoother at the corners, too. Long term project, though, as I'm doing it all by hand in my free time.

Ok, I'll play...

HEST fixed for all three situations. Small, light, and tough.

I would either take my Custom Andrew Demko AD 10 folder or one of my Alan Davis knives. Kevin :D

I'd feel best with a short regrind Ontario machete I did but would feel pretty good with my BRKT Bravo1 or my ESEE 3

MLL Knives / Wildland Small Machete / .25 in thick O1 steel
or
Nathan The Machinist / Combat Shiv / .25 in thick A2 steel

I don't know any specific knives off the top of my head, I'm not too into fixed blades.

1. Urban: Medium sized fixed blade say 6 inches maybe more. No more than 3/16 no less than 1/8 thick. 1095 or properly done tool steel g10 or micarta handle
2. Jungle: Large 15+ inch blade 1/8-3/16 machete, high end stainless steel micarta handle.
3. Mountainous: 3/16+ 10-15 inch edge, fixed blade with a high end tool steel.

The junglas actually seems to fit what I would want for all three really. Like I said though I'm not too into the fixed blade world so I'm sure there are knives that fit my descriptions and if I actually get some fixed blades and test them my opinion will change. I would def. take a fixed though if my life depends on it. I don't need no lock failing or anything when I'm starving trying to do whatever.

From the ones that I own:
ZT 0100.
Second place, becker bk2.

Others, it would be a junglas, or a busse in a similar lenght an blade shape.
