What's so good about the Sebenza?

I have made knives, so I guess you are a little inconsistent. If anyone is curious, I ground them out of mild steel after I had a conversation with a maker who used to make blades out of Al and mild steel and I was intrigued by the statements he made on functionality. I ground two test blades to set lower limits on edge retention and cutting ability and durability. I described the results a couple of years back.

Why would you have respect for someone just because he makes knives. There are lots of people in the industry who rip people off, do you respect them simply because they have talent. There was a case awhile ago where a well known maker ripped off a guy dying from a terminal disease. Yeah, I would really respect that guy because he can make a nice knife alright. Of course this is a forum to talk about knives, not the makers and your feelings on them or anyone else as individuals.

would never say that Reeve invent the drop point. That is like saying ford invented the wheel.

But I say that The South African knew how to put a knife together. And he taught you guys a thing or two.
"You guys" meaning Americans or Canadians? No way, you mean your native language isn't English? I never would have guessed! :D BTW, why do you refer to Chris Reeve as "The South African"? He's from South Africa, but I do believe he is an American now. ;)

He didn’t make the perfect knife , but knives are his life and possession, unlike some knife testers who just make big statements and pretend to be objective.
Hey, knives seem to be Cliff's life, too. I'm sure he has some in his possession as well. :D

I hate to burst your bubble, but CRK is a "manufacturer". I'm sure he tests his knives too, so that would make him a "tester" as well. What now, no more respect for Chris Reeve?

Reeve made knives and perfected them to his best. What have you made cliff?
Obviously, Cliff has made a lot of posts that have pissed you off, and in the process, provided me with great entertainment reading your poorly written rants. :D

It is easy to say that he sells, but all the top knife makers sell, including sal when he was a knife maker.

Know he is a manufacturer and a payer.
Yes, Sal is a "payer". He's "paid his dues" and he "pays" taxes. :D

I don't think you're doing Chris Reeve and the Sebenza a favor by posting in this manner. All it does is give the impression that his knives PURPORTED owners (I say this because you have yet to prove you even own a Sebenza) are extremely stupid, and as a Sebenza owner, I resent that.

They couldn’t collaborate with the Criss for such a cheep knife.

Next trivia question for Sebenza4ever:

Which company did collaborate with Chris Reeve to make an everyman's Sebenza?

If you said: "Spyderco", you don't get a star (nice try, though).

Columbia River Knife and Tool worked with Chris Reeve to make an affordable version of the Sebenza for Eddie Bauer. CRKT generally sells their knives for less money than Spyderco or Benchmade, so 'cheep'ness might not figure as much into the equations as you hint.

Fivelitermustang,

Customer's hungry for the Sebenza's styling, fit, finish, and customer service will pay the prices listed (though I've had excellent customer service from Benchmade regarding a 710). Same reason why some folks will buy a 5 liter Mustang instead of 750cc 'Yugo'.

[Sal is a "payer"]

I can figure out most of the above, but does anyone know was that supposed to mean? I think we need Ghostsix to translate.

Is this the "he pays for reviews" arguement? If so Reeve sent me a knife once too to review so I guess he is a "payer" as well.

I don't think that respect for the Sebenza (or knives, or the English language, or facts...) was ever part of Sebenza4ever's motivation. I believe his motivation rhymes well with "detention floor."

Good stuff, Thom! :D

Compared to other knives, what justifies the price difference?

For my next purchase I'm thinking of a BM 710 or 630 but just out of curiosity I glanced at the Sebenza (which happens to be like $250-300 more).

Can anybody explain the marginal gain of a $400 Sebenza vs. any solid $100 knife? I really don't see it.

You might try using the search feature. This exact same question is asked every week. :p

but they stell sell better?

in a way - yes. You don't have to wait for Spyderco, you DO have to wait for most Sebenzas... I think demand for Sebenza is bigger

It will never end!!! :D

Unless CRK stops making knives. But then we would have posts saying, "Man, I wish he would start making the Sebenza again, it was the best!" followed by posts saying, "The Sebenza sucks, good riddance!"
