Whats so great about Mora's?

So now your problem with Moras is that they don't "Speak to my Soul"!?!

I'm sorry, I keep forgetting that the "Internet is serious business".
I left my serious face at work (12 hour shift...plenty of seriousness to go around there).
Get over it...it's called an opinion.
Many people have them...even different ones.
I don't have a "problem" with them, I just don't want one.
Apparently you really, really, really, really do, and feel an evangelical zeal for spreading the Gospel of Mora.

Mora user about two years ago, my blackberry has more companion gutted trout all other knives I own.
I have several of them and I can say they are the most useful, but with friends and youtube is better to use a $ 300 knife

for $200 you can get a mora clone made with better steel and full tang+nice sheath by a custom knife maker.
Lets not go crazy and claim things Moras are something they aint.

I believe in this thread we are seeing many instances of "inexpensive knife snobbery".
"You just buy that fancy knife to impress people, unlike us real knife users."
Even if you use your pricier knife, somehow that doesn't count.
Even if no one you know is impressed at all by your expensive knife (and practically no one I know is), somehow you are still only purchasing them for that purpose.

Well, if you want to call it that, then yes. I like to let other know my opinions and experiences with knives, and I enjoy asking questions about what others preferences are.

I own a $5,000+ custom fixed blade by make Dietmar Kressler. (Long story how I got that one...)

But I don't use it because I'm afraid to get a micro scratch on it. It sits in a case and I fondle it.

I use my $10 Mora for way more than what it was made for. Batoning, splitting, chopping, etc. and I am only out $10 if it should ever fail.

Just my 2 cents.

Hmmm...that does complicate things. :D
I don't know why, but for some reason they just don't "speak to my soul", for want of a better description.
I could see having a few in a kitchen drawer though. They look like they'd do some good kitchen and household utility duty. :)

I understand if You find the basic barrell handle a little bit boring. :p
I thought the same as a kid, when I was going to get a new knife and had long argues about it with my father.
Today I agree with him and like the style better, but I like my own versions much better!

As the blanks are non-costly, I can choose a good handlematerial and make a knife that's more fun than the original.
I do carry them at work! :)

This is the #311 hunter blade in lam. O1.
It can take a bend and be able to bend back to true, without snap!
The edge-holding is on par with way more expensive knives.

I'll take a $12 Mora Companion over a $200 custom at this point. It's cheap and cuts and even takes some abuse. If I had money to burn, yea I think we all would be talking custom, but when you have bills to pay and a future to save for, Mora's pretty sweet for me.

Fair enough.
My step brother carries 3 Mora's with him (well, one is some other brand, but same idea), with the idea that if one breaks, he just pulls out another and away he goes.
He hasn't broken one yet though, to my knowledge.

As long as we're all carrying and using knives, I'm good with it.

But can your Mora do this:

:D

That's not what I'm saying, my handmade knives are in a display case.
In summary, the mora knives has excellent quality for very little money.
If I lose one of my handmade knives gives me a heart attack if I lose a FrostMora loss is minimal

The gospel of Mora. That's funny.

It is all about value. Mora's ARE a good value. But they aren't everyone's cup of tea or shot of whiskey. Choose your poison. Choosing or being able to choose is what it is all about.

I might not want to baton a $5000 knife myself. Guess that's why I tend to buy factory knives in the $50-$150 price range more often. However I just received a Dozier custom and I am going to use it, but I won't beat the tar out of it.

I bought a mora companion heavy duty recently because I have always heard so many good things about them. I have handled many expensive knifes and a few decent customs (my neighbor loves knives and has some very expensive ones). I am a budget type of guy just because I don't feel the need to spend excess money on something that can be had for a much cheaper price. That being said for the price I really don't believe they can be beat. I mean that in all seriousness. The edge is great, the grind makes it easy to maintain, the handle is comfortable, the sheath works, and the whole thing is so darn light. It has done well doing basic tasks so far. It wouldn't be my first choice for a "you can have only one knife survival situation" but it does everything you will need it to for a long time if you take care of it. Oh it was $15! Yup that's right $15!!!!

Do not understand how trees can be cut with a knife. There are much easier ways.
Know what a saw?

Meh, I made that sword to replace a machete and small axe in woods usage.
It does that.
Generally I don't have to cut down anything that big for shelter building or trail clearing, but you test things out to a point beyond what you need them to be able to do.

That's what cutting down a 9" diameter Maple was: a test of the sword for strength, where the "sweet spot" was, and for comfort in use.
It also cuts through green, thin vegetation nicely as well, as a tool to stand in for a mahete should.

One tool to rule them all!!!
