  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

What's Stronger?

Micarta: I noticed a post by Lone Wolf, posted elsewhere (ran across it while BF was on sabbatical), that Lone Wolf, at the request of the military removed micarta from the handle of its largest Harsey folders. Just recently, probably for collectors, they brought it back in the form of the T3 (like the looks of this huge mother).

I understand that the stink with micarta and the military is that they thought it absorbed sweat/oils from the hand. The military requested FRN. What does this absorption do to the micarta? Should probably ask LW about this but since this discussion is raging I figured someone might have some experience with micarta failing, in some manner, due to wicking of hand juice thru its fibers.

Best,

Is there any chart out there with tensil strength figures? Like how many lbs. per Sq. In. each can take before snapping, deforming and melting?

carbon fiber - 6000mpa (up to)

g10 - maybe 3000mpa

micarta - probably a little less

id say carbon fiber and g10 would be good for chemical resistance because of the epoxy

for strength carbon fibre beats g10 and micarta. its hard to judge exact strength because of the many different weaves and binders they use...each combo will perform differently. but in general CF, then g10, then micarta out of those 3 for strength and chemical resistance.
