Like the 0.36" blades on some models that are normally 0.31 or 0.25. Is it just a collector thing, or are there real "user" reasons that compensate for the additional weight?

Cuz everybody knows big girls are beautiful!

Yes!

The first Busse I ever used was a fat nmfsh at .37" thick. With the added heft, it chopped better than anything I've ever used before... It actually surprised me the first time I battoned it through a log.

A downside is the weight if you're carrying it on your belt and it didn't work too well with fine task... but that gives you an excuse to buy a smaller Busse:D

Wait a minute -- how did you get your hands on a .37 NMFSH?? I totally want that lol.

I like a big hunk of steel myself, chopping and hacking is just that much more fun with the blade develops it's own momentum !!!!!!! I like my little skinny supermodel blades for fine work, that said, there is NOTHING I can't accomplish with a .32 ASH1 !!!!!!!
