whats the best $30 or under deer skinner

I'm thinking... take a look at the Cold Steel Canadian Belt knife. I don't own one, but it has a nice, sweeping belly. Just an idea.

I don't have much experience with skinning, but Marbles Plainsman and Kershaw Skyline fixed blade, how about it?

One of the Marttiiini Condor series with ribber grip will do the job fine for well under $30. So will a Marttiini Timberjack. Also, just about any of the Moras. The Bucklite Max is another great one and you can get it with an orange grip.

buy a nice little paring knife at TJ Maxx or Marshalls. It will do a fine job. Cost ya about $5.00

I have skinned 1 deer a year since I was 12 (so 14 deer now, plus helped a few buddie with theirs) and upwards of 50 hogs (along with many many more rabbits and squirrls) yet I don't own a "skinner". I am watching this thread tho, do I need a dedicated "skinner" knife to process animals, no but if someone shows me a great $30 skinner I'd be up to try it out this year, deer season is almost here afterall and I haven't gotten a new piece of huntin equipment (other than clothing) for several years now.

Not that I don't still use a knife, obviously its required no matter the method, but I use a golf ball, a piece of rope and my truck to do most of the work actually skinning the deer and hogs I process.

Absolutely this. My belt knife for field dressing is a Kissing Crane hunter, but once we get back to camp, the Cold Steel Canadian comes out. For ten bucks, noting beats this thing.

For field chores, the KaBar Dozier folding hunter ($20) would work well for a locking folder. It's big enough. I'd feel comfortable using it for field dressing chores for both small and larger game. After you get to camp or home.... I would use a larger fixed blade for processing. I have been touting the praises on this knife since I got it two weeks ago.

There aren't a lot of quality fixed blades out there for under $30 bucks but one option you may take a look at is the Buck paklite skinner. 420 HC steel with the good Buck heat treat and comes with a nylon sheath.
