I hope it is on to ask this question here.

I have $50 coming my way. I want to expand my Case collection.

I already own
Peanut Yellow CV
Large Trapper Yellow CV
Regular Trapper Yellow CV
Sod buster Yellow CV
Sod buster Black SS
Stockman Bone Stag CV
Copperhead Redbone CV
Russlock Redbone CV
Small Texas Toothpick Pocket warn Orange SS

I'm interested in a Sowbelly and a stockman without the spay blade.

What are your suggestions?

Thanks

You mean Case makes other knives than peanuts?

Just joking. Sort of.

It all depends on your own individual taste in knives. I love peanuts, but most people find them too small. Some people love the SW jack, and that's a really great knife. Especially in chestnut bone. Others are die hard trapper fans.

For some reason, the bulk of the chestnut bone knives I've seen in the last year have been out of this world. Exellent fit and finish, I'm not sure why. It almost seems like Case has pulled all their most experienced people to work on the Chestnut's. Maybe get one of the patterns in that.

Carl.

Nice collection of Case you got there. How about Case Chrome Vanadium Square Bolster Medium Stockman with Amber Jigged Bone Handle it has a pen. But my choice would be the Case Pocket Worn Stockman with Old Red Bone Handle, smooth and a great worry stone but it has a spey.

Check out the 63032 Medium Stockman - Chestnut Bone CV. It replaces the spey blade with a pen blade. Check around ..... there are other Stockman's that have a pen in place of the spey. ;)

The medium Texas Jack in a two blade or one of the "32" pattern stock knives with a pen instead of a spey might be a way to go.

Though a fan of the pattern, I don't have a Case Sowbelly so I'll let the others clue you in on that one.

Beat 'cha by 1 minute! Great minds think alike! ;)

Only because I was doing some housekeeping and a clean-up in aisle 5! :p

I think there may end up being a consensus on those "32" patterns. .

It's plain to see that you need a Yellow handle Slimline Trapper in CV to round you out! I know where there is a large stockman CV amber bone for $45 NIB that could probably be had for less, but it does have the spey blade.

(Yeah, I happened to be "on" and saw the reply to your comment .... I knew you'd handle it with dispatch, Elliott. Well done.)

Back to the matter at hand! As Elliott mentioned, the 032 Texas Jack is a great one to consider also. The pen blade is really a "modified pen" blade ..... sort of a cross between a regular pen blade and a sheepsfoot. It's a great, stout little blade!

Here's a pic of the 032 Texas Jack so you can see the "modified pen" blade ..... (I'll shut up now ;))

I haven't checked every post, but I'd recommend the Amber Bone CV Texas Jack.

I'd also recommend a mini copperhead. There are some available at your price point.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I looked at my stats. I've been here since 07 and only made 4 posts. I guess I'm one of those guys that keeps his ears open and his mouth shut. Would the Texas Jack be just a bigger version of my peanut? All I see for sale is the Small version.

There's a commonality to blade types across many of the "traditional" patterns...clip, spear, pen, sheepfoot, spey blades (and the occasional punch).

The major differences come down to the patterns themselves, grinds (saber, flat, hollow) and the sizes of the patterns which determine the size of the blades.

So, in one way you'd be correct in saying that the blade layouts are similar...but on the other hand the feel in the hand changes depending on size, pattern and blade length.
(As I'm sure you already know from other knives in your collection.)

I will 4th? the vote for the "32" series Texas Jack knife.
I am carrying mine today, and wouldn't trade it for any Case knife that can be had for under $50.

I'd go with an amber bone CV stockman one of the best looking handle materials they offer IMO, and paired with an excellent blade steel.

Hello, which case is that on the right? and which handle material? Thats a nice blade combo and a good edc knife...
