I'm new to this hobby, and am looking for a few online retailers for my knifemaking needs.

Does anyone have a suggestion for me? I am in the U.S. if that makes a difference.

Thanks

If you listed your location in your profile so we'd know where you are that'd be a big help.... the US is a pretty big place even if you don't include Alaska.

usaknifemaker.com
knifekits.com
texasknifemakersupply.com
trugrit.com
admiralsteel.com
flatground.com
popsknifesupply.com

good luck

Tracy at Midwest Knifemaker's Supplies (usaknifemaker) and Pop's Knife Supplies are my two favorites. Other places include Knifekits.com and Texasknife.com.

There are many places as listed previously by others.

The question I ask myself is who do you want to give your business to and why ?

Good service ?
Everything all in one place?
Fast order processing?

This narrows the list a little.

Do you like the idea of supporting someone active in the forums?
someone who gives back to the knifemaking communtiy via advice, tutorials, customer service, sales etc. etc. etc.

Someone who's giving with charitable contributions of materials to makers to provide completed knives to be raffled to assist our brother makers in need ?

Tracy Mickley is the man and usaknifemakers is the place. It's as simple as that.

A order with Tracy is helping him to support us

my olmost my all in one shop is tracy
but when you need to hand pick handle stuffs alpha knife supply is hard to beat

I did my first order with Tracy a couple of weeks ago. It would be tough to find better, and why waste the time. Great communication, you know you're buying the right products from a real knife maker. I can't say enough about the great experience. A lot of other companies I'm sure are good too, but there's something to be said about supporting a fellow knife maker.

I do agree in this reguard ! I wanna see exatly what I'm getting before I buy.

Tracy dosen't have the extensive pics that Alpha has, but if your looking at a Premium material like Sambar or Stabilized burls Tracy provides a group pic with designating numbers that you do get to choose and see in advance the exact piece you'll get.

I think this may be a newer development for him so everyone may not be aware of this yet so I thought I'd make another post.

I didn't see anyone mention Jantz Knife Supply. I don't purchase a lot of material as my knifemaking is strictly a hobby but I have ordered several times from them. First class service every time and if I call on Monday, Jerry with UPS is handing my order to me about noon on Wednesday. They even take care of problems that aren't their fault. I ordered a parrot vise that arrived with a broken base and called them to ask if they could tell me the best way to file a claim since I had no experience with that. Long story short, Jantz sent me a new vise immediately and took care of the claim. It was on their initiative and I told the lady I didn't expect them to do that. Her reply was that I ordered a new vise and I was going to get a new vise. It was here on the third day.

By the way, I didn't find the vise nearly a useful as I though I would. It just sets on a shelf gathering dust 95% of the time.

There is no "best place" to get everything, but Tracy is good people and highly recommended.

Sheffield and K&G are probably the oldest and good service also. Pop's is very hard to beat for belts and he and his wife are super folks!

I buy a lot of stuff from MSC too.
