Hello I was wondering if I could get some advice from my fellow members as to the best overall knife site for selection, prices and service.I live in Canada and we don't seem to have many decent choices on-line, so I am sure that there are some great sites in the U.S.A that I am not aware of.
All suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks,
Kap

p.s I am shopping primarily for Benchmade,Case,Opinel and S.A.K.'s.

Wow, that really depends on what type of knife you are looking for. For production knives, I generally shop knifeworks.com or New Graham. Both have excellent prices and great service.

Ditto that, and they are authorized dealers here so supporting them is supporting the forums. Not to mention 1SKS. Since the owner of 1SKS also owns the forums, buying from 1SKS helps the forums as well.

For more information, I suggest searching the Good, Bad, and Ugly section of the Exchange forum for more information on these and other dealers.

Here is where NOT to go......

OsoGrande knives: They never responded when I tried to order a knife from them (a Lrg. Sebenza for that matter, not a cheap knife!) Didn't matter how many times I tried. They get a zero rating!

The Benchmade Store: Not affiliated with Benchmade knives. This place never answers the phone when you try to call & rarely replies to e-mails.
Never has what you want in stock...they just suck!

Otherwise, my vote goes to NewGraham. Mike & the crew are #1.

You can also try E-Bay, for possibly a cheaper price, but make sure you check the sellers feedback rating....don't want you to get screwed.

www.froogle.com will usually turn up the lowest price. Of course, then you have to know if that particular dealer is reputable. I have had mixed success in trying dealers I have not previously heard about.

The biggest problem I have had is with dealers who change orders without asking. I have placed multiple knife orders and had some knives canceled due to being out of stock. In some cases I placed multiple orders because the price, including shipping, was lower than ordering each knife from a different company. However, when part of the order was canceled the cost then became higher than it might have been in the first place, if I had ordered each knife separately from the dealers with the best price on each.

Those companies who cancel part of my order without asking me in advance do not get my business a second time.

Just in case you haven't found them, here are some Canadian sites:

True North Knives (lots of nice customs, and good supply of Chris Reeve knives and others... exceptional service - I've purchased from Mr. Ostroff on two occcaisions and have been very satisfied)

The Knife Zone (Looks to be predominantly production knives... I've not ordered from them, as I mostly have customs, but I have spoken to them on the phone and they seemed very personable and willing to help find what you need).

There is a good selection of SAKs at SIR Mailorder . They're here in Winnipeg, and I visit their store frequently.

Also, Mountain Equipment Co-op has some SAKs.

Lee Valley Tools has some Opinels

www.knivesplus.com They have a brick and mortar store as well as an online store. Family owned and in business for almost 20 years!

It must be Monday... my brain is not entirely in gear. My first thought was "what an odd combination of things to specialize in... brick and mortar, plus knives" . Not to mention the shipping costs of ordering brick an mortar online!
:)

Time for me to have another caffeine dose... levels are becoming subtherapeutic!

A Calgary based company, they can get tons of knives to you. Their store is in Calgary and stocks a wide variety of production knives, as well as some Randalls and customs. It is best to look around for knvies you want, and then e-mail them or call (they have a toll free number) to get price and shipping info.

I was looking at www.eknifeworks.com and noticed a loarge selection of Schrade seconds at reasonable prices.
Has anyone here dealt with this company and/or bought so-called seconds before?
Are the seconds worth it for daily users?

Thanks,
Kap

I have had stellar experiences from the following online dealers:

One stop knife shop - www.1sks.com
TAD gear - www.tadgear.com
New Graham Knives - www.newgraham.com
Bladeart - www.bladeart.com
Arizona Custom Knives - www.arizonacustomknives.com

Each of these dealers had great selection and were also very flexible in shipping to Canada.

I have found that the greatest hidden cost in purchasing a knife from an on-line dealer in the States is that most of them automatically ship UPS to Canada, which gets real expensive for us because UPS cahrges a 52.00 brokerage fee everytime to clear your package through Canada Customs.

I request that dealers send my my packages through the US Post, registered.

Of course, if you buy from True North Knives in Canada, then this situation is avoided. Neil Ostroff is a great guy to do business with. Damn straight , eh.
