whats the best pocket knife brand

WalMart wouldn't have the Case Mako. They usually sell cheap POS, or good Kershaw's and Buck's. I think the Mako has SS steal. A good knife, easily found at WalMart (even though I hate the store) is the Kershaw SkyLine. Great profile, nice blade steel, USA made, locking blade, and G10 scales. Sell around for thirty five bucks.

Lots of good suggestions here, but the Skyline is definitely a good buy for the money. Quite a few regulars here who are pretty picky about their knives (including myself) have tried the Skyline and really like it. You could do a lot worse. Also, take a look at CRKT Pazoda. It's a heck of a knife for around $30. Good luck with the knife hunt - it's a fun part of the whole buying experience.

P.S. Welcome to the forums!

i will check them out. where can i go besides walmart and bass pro , would any sports store have knives or is there something i can look up to find a store near me

you have opened a can of worms asking this question here lol

anyways, i say kershaw, case, buck, benchmade, or CRKT

Boker is usually pretty good, but it doesn't meet your request for an American company. Boker is German. Most of their one-handers are made in Taiwan.

queen cutlery? alright ill look it up. well what companies are actually made in america anymore?

where are CRKT and Kershaw made?

Welcome aboard. My recommendations would be Kershaw, Buck, Spyderco, and Benchmade. They all have some fairly inexpensive quality knives made in the USA. Skyline and Blur from Kershaw, Vantage Pro and 110 from Buck, Native (and some of those mentioned above) from Spyderco, and Griptilian and Mini Griptilian from Benchmade are all worth checking out. In my area some of the better local sporting goods stores have plenty of knives to choose from, Wildsports. Further north there's a shop that makes agricultural saws that has a great knife shop, Fanno Saw Works. Cabelas, REI, Sportsmans Warehouse are some national chains to check out.

Kershaw makes most of their knives in Oregon. They also sell some that are made in Taiwan and mainland China.

From what I can tell CRKT sells knives that are made in Taiwan and mainland China.

Queen is made in USA. So are most offerings from Ontario Cutlery. Queen has very good fit and finish, but they are dull out of the box. Their D2 holds a good edge once you put one there.

where would i find them? do most sporting god stores have a selection of pocket knives ? i havent lived where i am now for to long and not sure of what too look up in the phone book to see where a place is located.

I think you'll have to let your fingers do the walking...

If you tell us what city and state you live in or near, then people who know your area can chime in with recommendations for brick and mortar retailers of cutlery.

You are a lot safer sticking with Buck, Benchmade, Spyderco, and Kershaw than going for less even brands. These four companies are appreciated here for very good reasons. They all sell good knives made in the USA as well as from other countries, and I do not think they sell any bad knives, just good and better. Welcome to Blade Forums!

thanks. well i dont know much about sog if they are good or not or anything really. case has a pretty good reputation right? i was thinking of going with a case because of the USA factor. am i correct to think they are good quality knives?

The consensus on Case seems to be quality is hit or miss except for some select lines like the Tony Bose models, so it's best to handle and inspect one of theirs carefully before purchase. If there is a problem, though, they do have good customer service.

ok, is case still only made in america? and i read they have tru sharp and chromium vandanium steel. what is either of those?
