What's the best stainless steel survival knife under $50

Mora for sure, or Sog Field Pup II, and I know, ahem, guy who has one for sale on the exchange.....

You can get a variety of Mora knives in stainless for less than $50. I just picked up a couple Blackjack 155s in 154CM (which is a stainless steel) for $52 each, but they don't have handle scales so that may be out of your price range. There are plenty of great smaller fixed blades under $50 in stainless steel.
For value, I don't think you'll beat a Mora classic #2 though.

I'd stay away from the sog seal pup. The steel is soft and once the serrations get chewed up you end up with a useless portion of blade. The Buck Reaper or 119 are excellent as are the Mora knives. The Cold Steel outdoorsman lite is good. Or Kabars hunter or large skinner or marine bowie. If you plan to baton go with the Buck, either of them.

Buck Reaper, a little more than $50, but not much.

Depends on what you mean by survival. Condor makes some good stainless steel knives. But, for $50, you could get a Mora 546, a folding saw with an extra blade, and an inexpensive hatchet.

Just adding something I saw on the net. You can carry a bow saw blade @ 21" to @ 30". It was fairly simple, given the right wood, to make a bow saw. You might need a couple of bolts to hold the blade in place.

I am looking for something like ka bar short but with stainless steel. Thanks.

As was mentioned before, have a look at -

Cold Steel (just a few pennies above 50 bucks)

SOG (also around the $50 mark). Other than the SEAL Pups', the Team Leader is in my wish list as it looks good for food prep and kitchen duties as well. I think it's adequate as long as you know what the blade tip is meant for.

There is still one brand though which I am reluctant to mention; Taylor Brands, which now owns Schrade, doesn't have a good rep with their blades' performance. I have recently come across the model below which "seems" (strong point on that word) to be a decent beater/wreaker. Your choice though.

^ BTW, I kind of like that kid! Anytime a youngster goes out there instead of inside just doing video games is a good thing.

Good luck with your search.

Not a fan of buck knives.... Had some issues in the past but for under $50 I would suggest the Gerber big rock plain edge or maybe the condor bushlore

Stainless condor machete, mora, and SAK's all come to mind when I think of cheap stainless for the woods. These will all work. Pick the one you're most likely to carry. SAK for me.

Queen Drop point Hunter with a 3 1/2" blade in D2 full tang with a wooden handle for less than $50
Very similar to a RAT but civilian shiny in D2
Queens heat treat of D2 is superb
Takes and holds an edge for ever

I'd say a Cold Steel Pocket Bushman AND a SAK with a saw if you're stuck on stainless.

Or, more traditionally, one of many carbon knives for easier fire starting.
