What's the best way to remove vinyl decals from an automobile?

Im a race car mechanic, hear it from me!
peel the vinyl off with your fingers and take care of the glue with any of these on the end of a drill

i can do a entire 18x18 number square in 5 minutes! finish it off with some polish and you're set

Trade it in for an identical model. Seriously though my concern would be the colour differential/differences due to fading of the original paint, glue affects. When I got married the over-eager friends put decals all over the white paint of the car. Two weeks later we were able to take a hairdryer to the Happily Married and the message was very lightly imprinted on the paintwork. It was eventually removed by an 18 wheeler, along with the rest of the car. I believe more modern paints to be better and easier to buff.
