What's the difference? "D" Guard vs Double Talon

Guys,

The situation is simple. You can have either knife, but you only get ONE!

It has to be THE knife for whatever needs done, cause it is all you got.

What is the benefit of the D guard? Or is it just a hassel?

The clock is ticking, and you need to decide!

No D-Guard. Simple fact is it cannot be removed and generally is a B**tch when chopping.

Yes, yes you do! ;) :D

Honestly, if you were only going to buy one, you should have picked up one of the ASH 2's. Better all-rounder than either of these IMO. But to pick one of the current offerings and not have any other option, I'd go with the Talon model.

I know I missed the Steel Hearts and have come close to buying one, in the open market. I may still do that, but I have a sneaking suspicion that knife number "3" may be a real doozie!

But the 72 hour clock is TICKING!

It looks like most hogs prefer the talons!

Wish I had an inkling of the next knife. If it is an HG55 and I miss it I will .....be rather sad.

Based purely on design, I'd take the double talon over the ASH2. For my preferences, based purely on numbers and blade design, I prefer the BGDTBM. There's only three or four designs that I know of that would make me regret my choice if they came up: NMSFNO, TGLB, NMFSH, maybe FBM. The SFNO was already done in a battle grade, so I don't see it coming back. The TGLB was ended then, brought back as a BGTG, then the TG-M, so that is unlikely. The Steel Heart has already come as the ASH2 and the SHe, as well as the BG ASH, so I can't imagine they'd come out with yet another iteration. So, maybe a FBM? Just did the BGDGBM, and the BGDTBM, which was supposed to be next week's, apparently. So, an FBM as a follow-on? If they do that, well... that'd be a long shot. I'm willing to gamble on that.

hmmm.... Reading back through that, what hasn't already been done more than once? SFNO iteration?? I might be screwed...

Only reason I passed on the ASH2 was the 9 inch blade. I really with the Talon would've been 11 like the SHBM but 10 was close enough.

If I could I would get both, but I can't cause I'm in CA; and I really like the double talon one, so I basically scored anyway; the only issue now is: should I get two? My credit cards are almost maxed out with Busse knives. Have a drink for me please. [emoji16]

Shane, I'm in a similar situation only instead of D guard vs Talon it's talon vs release number 3. Should I jump on the Talon while it's discounted and miss out on something I might like better when release 3 is out? Or should I wait for release 3 and risk paying more for a Talon in case I don't love the third release...... I have been stuck on the order screen since yesterday afternoon. Help me lol.

Happy New Year J. B. and Family and to all you other folks as well.

Uh...... Okay....... Consider it done my friend!

Yeah, I know. . . . I'm a giver. . . . . It's what I do.

Let's drink!

Were I to be selecting between the D Guard and the Double Talon, would be an easy choice for me.... Double Talon. Just appeals to me more.

Concerning the Ash2, don't get hung up on any shoulda, coulda, woulda. Won't help you any and what's done is done.

Get your mistress and enjoy the hell out of her.

Hello everyone, first post here. Had to jump in with a few thoughts.

- IMHO, the d-guard allows for a more aggressive approach to chopping/cutting whatever may be targeted. The variable of overall "grip" and it being an secure/protected extension of your arm is enabled by the d-guard to a tangible degree. Of course, how well it fits an individuals hand is the risk. The guard is bigger than previous models, so the risk of not fitting is reduced.

- A note on balance. From my view previous versions of the mistress are (purposely) blade heavy to facilitate the chopping force multiplier, in this case things may balance a little more. May not benefit chopping, but could lend itself to other attributes not previously offered by the historic mistress. An example would be while using it for a finer task, choked up on the choil. Even saying "using for finer tasks" sounds odd with this blade, but that may be why it becomes a real gem. And if chopping is really an individuals focus, a hatchet will eventually make its way into their pack.

- And this not being in INFI does not bother me much. I use an INFI SARGE7 and a SR101 RMDLE, both are rock solid. I bet this well balanced devastating mega-beast will fit right in!

- Being this is my first post, I'll risk going out on a limb. Just having a large steel ring attached to a knife presents some interesting thoughts. This is one solid piece of forged steel, that ring is likely very strong. There are many uses for a steel ring in the world of belaying, creating a pulley, etc. Not saying its made for that, just thoughts given its strength and putting on my "if I had to pick one knife" MacGyver hat. Ok, I'll stop now, getting too close to my zombie apocalypse crazy town thoughts.

And, now I'm thinking about a sheath...I'm sure that won't cost much :D
