What's the difference? "D" Guard vs Double Talon

Based on experiences chopping for extended periods of time with several machetes, and several knives, to include a custom or two, as well as a couple of Swamp RatS, I expect them to feel like sh**, based purely on the shape of them and the handle, compared to previous experiences. The only handles I expect to feel ok after extended chopping (which I consider to be chopping fairly vigorously off and on over the course of about 3 - 4 hours) would be the Ergo shape, and probably the grip shapes on the SFNO, NMSFNO, Hell Razor, or the Fusion SH's or BM's. I really don't expect the BGDTBM to be the best feeling chopper for the kind of chopping I end up doing that takes 3-ish hours to complete.

Very interesting. I've been scoping the market for a chopper and was thinking this might be it, but after looking at that design, I'm second guessing. I have a tracker style knife with exposed talons like that and it hurts like hell when chopping. I've seen reviews with similar findings. I suppose they could be ground off however

I'm confused, why does a design like the talons make it hurt more? From your hand shifting when the blade hits?

The one saving grace of the BGDTBM, or for that matter the BGDGBM, Papalone13, is the apparent contouring of the scales. It appears they are heavily contoured, which would lock the knife in your hand well enough that maybe it wouldn't ride the back edge of the hand too much. Maybe.

ALLHSS, that is the reason the talons might hurt. Any knife or chopping tool that I've used that has such a pronounced drop at the butt of the grip has a tendency to ride forward do that the drop/talon/d-guard rides the back edge of your hand painfully. It's alright in a fairly short chopping session. But in longer sessions, it becomes pretty painful. Me personally, I can use that style, but it's not my preferred style. Something like the grip of the NMSFNO works less painfully. You might end up having to adjust your cadence, or occasionally give it a rest, but at least it doesn't ride the back edge of your hand.
