What's the difference.

Interesting. We all seem to agree that there is a point beyond which we gain nothing but asthetics and prestige in buying a more expensive knife. Also interesting the line at which this happens has been set anywhere from $20 to $200. I am sure there are those who could move the line both higher and lower (for sure the opinel crowd and the CRK crowd would move it some) The important thing in a knife to you and your willingness to pay for that is the determining factor. I am just glad we all have the ablility to make our own decisions and find a level that suits us.

There is a local guy that actually has a McLauren F1. 1st time I ever saw it in person it was parked, unattended in the parking lot of a home depot. I assume the owner was picking up something. Have to admit I almost hurt my neck doing a doubletake. I have no issue with him using his car to run errands or someone else having a more expensive knife if its worth it to them. Is it worth the difference to you? That is something you will have to decide.

Yes it is:

- Ergos
- Materials
- Tolerances
- F&F

The benefits gained from the above warrant the high price and oh yes workmanship also should not be forgotten...that being said the Cryo is one heck of a value knife!

On the surface this seems reasonable but I've had inexpensive knives spank expensive knives like a redheaded stepchild in all of those areas except materials. IME the only advantage to spendy knives is edge holding and if you know how to sharpen a knife that point becomes moot as well. People buy spendy knives because they like them and that's the long and short of it. A mora can very easily compete with a 200 dollar custom fixed blade just like an opinel can compete with a 400 dollar folder. One is nicer, that's about it.

Greetings all,

I have a simple question...is a $150.00 knife really that much better than a $50.00 knife ? For instance, a Spyderco Paramilitary 2 vs a Kershaw CRYO 2.

To me these are great knives, I find them to be of good quality, and I own them both.

I wish I couldn't tell the difference, would save me a pile of money! :p
