What's the knife that breaks your rules?

This DDR AXD...

Flipper

But I love it so much that I had sold it but got it back.

Yeah, I saw your post in the "Knife Life" thread. It's definitely a hefty knife. I can see it being too much for someone, but I LOVE mine. It's my favourite knife. Although, I think the Spanto grind had a little something to do with you not liking it as well (which I believe you mentioned). That is NOT an EDC type grind, unless you need it for work. I'm a career firefighter, and can't justify the Spanto grind, even with my usage. (mine is the Skinner grind)

Good luck with the hunt! I've been dealing with Rob, trying to get a new one direct from the ranch. I'd really like a spear point, we'll see what they've got when the next batch is ready to ship.

Yep that spanto was.......uh.......not to my liking:)

The skinner is not only a nicer grind, but a nicer profile overall IMO. The extra width of the blade makes it look like a better match to the handle than the narrow and drooping look of the spanto.

Really cool that you're a firefighter too. Much respect to you bro:thumbup:

So how many other guys in that profession carry the kind of higher end stuff you do? Do you see lots of Hinderers or is it usually just cheapos? Have you "influenced" anyone to buy better stuff?

PM sent in an effort to not muck up this thread any more :D

Woops, yeah thats probably a good idea:o:D

EDIT: my inbox was full, so if you sent it I didn't get it. Clear now, so youre good to resend:)

I'm a budget guy. I've handled and fondled a few sebbies and a bench made or two and a zt, and don't kill me over this but I'm a buck stockman man and I love my bear grylls/gerber paracord fixed blade. The small one without the serrated edge. It took a little work to polish up the edge but it's my perfect edc. And I'm not scared to beat the jeepers out of this knife at 28.99

Edit: my rules is needs to be easy to sharpen, needs to be edc size, and needs to be under $50

One knife that I like that breaks most of the rules is the Spyderco PITS. Cool Knife.

Rule 1. I need to be able open the blade on a folder with gloves on. Yet I own a cheap Asian made trapper.

Rule 2. I try to avoid folders that are all metal. Yet I own six Victorinox Soldiers and a Cadet. (Rule 1 also applies)

Rule 3. I will not purchase knives with a bead blasted finish. Yet I have a CRKT Prowler as part of my carry rotation.

Rule 4. Will not buy a knife with unknown blade steel but, I own a Gerber.

Rule 5. I will not buy clip point blades yet, I own three. An AirSOG, Buck 112, and an Ontario pilot suvival knife.

Rule 6. There is no rule six.

Rule 7. I don't like assisted opening folders but I own a SOG Flash 2 and a Kershaw Echelon.

Rule 8. I will not buy a knife with holes through the scales. It is just another place for lint, dust and rust. Yet, I like CRKT's M16-02.

There's seven just off the top of my head. Some of them have come about because of the knives I've listed above. Others are because of what I have learned from all of you folks.

Looks like they are guidelines instead of rules.
