What's the knife that has disappointed you the most?

One of my Buck folders is so damn crappy that I don't even dare to sell it. Hell, I can't even throw it away as I am afraid my neighbours will see it in the trash bin and might think I am a collector of cheapo knives.

I had a gerber multi tool back in 97 or 98 I think, maybe before that, never had a problem with it, never broke it, wasn't bad.

I can't really think of a knife I ever bought that I didn't care for except a no name "survival knife" that had a hallow handle screwed on to the short stick tang, didn't last long enough for the 10 or 15 bucks I spent on it.

Had 2 original production CRKT Ripples (full size and Ripple 2) so I ordered a semi-serrated version to complete the set. When I got the knife the framelock barely touched the blade and there was a 1/4 inch play in the blade when the knife was closed. I sent it back to CRKT the same day paying for shipping, insurance and confirmation of receipt. I didn't receive any notice from CRKT they had received the knife so a few days after the knife showed received, I emailed them. The response was underwhelming. I was told "they were out of Ripples and didn't expect any back in stock until sometime in August???? "Sorry for the inconvenience" I called them to see what the problem was as these knives are still available online. It's obvious that CRKT has no means to stand behind their warranty. This will be the last CRKT knife I order. Customer no service did say they "found" my model and would ship it out next week??? If they have it in stock, why not the next day?? No more CRKT for me.

DPX Hest Folder.

First two had locks that failed. Third has slight vertical play. :(

What's the use of a good warranty if they keep sending you faulty knives?

I got two folding knives for $1.98 from an ad in the back of a comic book. I was in jr. high school. Yes they looked just like the picture and about the same size... about 2" oal.

Ric

I had those too. I loved 'em. They weren't sharp and they didn't hold up but I loved 'em. I mean I totally got my $1.98 worth.

Helle Ny Fording. Nice, very sharp, sturdy laminated blade. Handle looked to have been made by a starving inmate of a gulag with a dull rasp. Very dissapointing. I was fixing to knock the handle off the blade but I got a good price for it on a well-known auction site. Helle in general has been very dissapointing for me. Great blades, terrible handles for me so far.

Gerber LMF. Can't make the thing sharp. Don't know if it is bad steel, maybe a bad heat treat or what. I can't figure out what steel it is and nobody on the forum can seem to help either. Some are Sandvik but I have a number of Sandvik steels and this doesn't seem to be that unless it is so soft it won't hold. I still have that as my trunk knife but I am very dissapointed in that. That thing started my downhill slide with Gerber.

The Glock knife is a piece of junk...really a bayonet or a dagger but I have no use for either of those things.

Wonderful, I'll blaspheme away...

I never liked my Buck 110; to echo an earlier post -- why does a simple lock-back folder have to weigh so much that it needs to be carried in a sheath? The brass bolsters are nice too, at first, but they sure don't stay that way for more than a few days. Never cared for the 420HC blades either and I found myself sharpening the thing every other week with moderate usage, despite all the chitter-chatter about Buck's heat treat being the greatest thing ever... my Swiss Army knife stays sharper for longer.

I bought an ESEE Izula after convincing myself that it'd be great, and it was ok until for some reason I started habitually slicing my fingers with it, which I've never done with any of my other knives... Maybe it was some combination of the stickiness of the coating, the unnecessary thickness and wedge-like profile of a blade that small, and the very pronounced belly, but I traded it away after a week. I thought it would be great, but it sure didn't suit me.

+ whatever for the griptilian. Off centered blade no matter how much I messed with the pivot, would hit the sides of the cheap feeling handle and i've never cared much for the axis lock....however i did like the blade shape and steel dam shame

Cheaper than Dirt Rough use Knife. Yes, I know, it's a $10 knife. Saw Noss hammer one through pipes and logs and concrete so I drove an hour to Ft.Worth and got one at the CTD store. Drove an hour back home, got it out and batonned it through a 3 inch log. On the third strike the tang broke and left me holding the handle while the blade remained in the log. Lesson learned.

Spydeco delica. It came duller than most of the other knives I had(unexpected with all the praise for spyderco's out of box sharpness), and the sabre grind, ugh the saber grind. I could get the knife nice and razor sharp and sure that sabre grind was strong but it just did not cut as well as my mini-grip or most of my other knives. Also i did not like the handle or backlock much.

And my G10 S30v leek. The pivot backed out easily creating play and the line between opening easily with no play and not springing fully open was very fine. I also could not get the tip sharp enough for my tastes.

Gotta say the Koyote Stead knife was the biggest one. It just didn't feel right in the hand. It was a little blocky and "crowded" my grip.

My etched handle Spyderco Cricket breaks my heart to this day. From day one, the blade had up and down blade play with the framelock too sloppy to engage the tang at all. I suppose I could live with that. But the steel just was never impressive enough to make it an EDC. That makes it a paperweight to me. What a pity.

I do like Buck for the most part BUT...Pretty much anything Ive tried with Bucks (in)famous "420HC"...Maybe Im spoiled, I dont know but that steel in the knives I tried has disapponted me. I should have known better just looking at the specs of the steel despite what ever kind of heat treat it gets..
The bladesmith in me said "That steel can only be so good no matter what you do to it"...I didnt listen and the bladesmith in me afterwords said "I told you so dumb arse:rolleyes:"..

Gerber Answer. Thought it would be a nice bargain, but I was wrong. Cheap steel didn't take an edge, or really hold it. More of an apple-peeler than anything else.

CRKT Kiss. Shortest ownership of a knife I ever had. One hour.

Lock fail, cut finger. Wash knife. Patch finger. Return knife to store.

WTH was I thinking buying a chisel-grind, half-serrated frame-lock knife anyhow? Now I know better.

My latest dissapointment is a Buck Vantage select. Maybe I got a bad heat-treat , but mine does not take a sharp edge no matter what I try. Oilstones, diamond stones, sharpmaker, belt grinder. I give up. All my other knives are hair-poppers , even my other Bucks I have. And nope, I ain't sending it back. Not worth it.

HEST folder, I just can´t open it comfortably, is so hard, so dull, I finally gave up and the **** thing rest unused in my drawer. It is my most expensive folder so far and my biggest disappointment.

Benchmade onslaught. The knife LOOKS absolutely gorgeous, but the lack of weight in the handles and the super thin blade and overly huge size just doesn't work for me. I really don't know what I can use the knife for except for putting it on display.

Benchmade Griptilian Tanto, the handles felt very cheap, gave it a chance with a few weeks of carry then it went in the drawer to stay, until I gave it to a co-worker.
