Whats the matter with my Evenheat oven?

Bought a like new Evenheat oven 2 years ago. It has worked fine until now. I try to set the temp to 1920 degrees and the little computer thing won't let me go past 1900 degrees. In the past this has not happened...from the owner's manual, I can potentially run it up to 2400 if I needed to. I wonder if the cold temps in the shop have messed with the keypad, etc...

I have repeatedly turned it off and on...plugged and unplugged it to no avail. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

I am beginning to wonder what this little thing may end up costing me.

Any suggestions are appreciated

Thanks,

Hank

Hi Hank

I haven't seen the problem elsewhere. I've asked evenheat tech support for suggestions, but they are off till the 3rd of January. I'll post as soon as they get back to me.

Thanks

Rob!

You may have a shorted thermocouple further up towards the top. Or like was mentioned before, you may have inadvertantly set an upper limit to 1900. Type K couples are notorious for problems such as this. If you ever look at the weld of the two disimilar metals, you will see a splatter more than a good, even weld on these particular thermocouples.

I needed to HT two 154CM blades...I usually take it to 1920 for 20 minutes. If I am stuck @ 1900 right now ya think I could just go 1900 for, say, 25 minutes and be where I need to be prior to tempering? Just wondering.
Thanks!

It's the very last item in the programming sequence for each preset, IIRC.

I'd be careful keeping it in there for 1hr. You SS envelope has to be
pefrectly tight, otherwise it will decarb like crazy.

Hey Mike....I have the owners manual that came with it...cannot see where there is any stinkin' alarms on this bugger. Lately it has been acting funny when I have been setting it up for HT..."err" messages and such. The owners manual said to unplug and plug back in...it eventually worked after about 10 tries. Now acting funny again...damn, hope I don't have to send it back or something. Bet those little computers are expensive in there too.

1900 degrees for one hour? I downloaded the spec sheet and I just don't have the balls to leave it in there for an hour. Seems to me I was reading one of the spec sheets a good while ago and the degrees and times were for each inch of thickness of the metal...wonder if thats what they mean here? Oh well....will give the oven a try again and see what happens now that I am home from work.
Have a great new years.

Not on mine it isn't???

You are absolutely correct, Rob. I apologize for my poor memory. The Alm function is an audible feature on the Rampmaster2. I have been reading that manual lately, since I upgraded, and I got it mixed up. I should have verified it before I posted. Obviously, my "IIRC" says I must have had some doubt in my head. i should have listened to it.

Actually, they also call for an hour for 1950F as I recall. I treat as per specs with no problem but if you've used 1920 for a shorter time with success, I'm sure 1900 will work as well.

Good advice above about wrapping tightly. It does make a difference. I also use extra (much) paper in the envelope. That way, there just won't be any O2 to decarburize.

Don't have any experience with Evenheat ovens or their controllers,but.........

Most digital temp controllers will have an upper temp limit that is user difinable that will not let the temp be set above that point. Look in your users manual for a programming parameter called 'Hi Limit' or something close to it.

Just my $.02

Hey Mike....2400 is the upper limit. In setting the controls/learning this oven, etc, just pushing the up and down arrows would bring it up to 2400 degrees and down to, oh, about 250 degrees or something like that. The up arrow just won't bring it up past 1900 now.

I can't get the cone firing settings to work either, but I don't know what a dang cone is anyway, unless it has vanilla ice cream on top of it.

Back to the drawing board...all your suggestions are very much appreciated.

Hank, I'm confused. The cone fire thing threw me, then I looked through manuals at Evenheat. What model of furnace do you have and which controller? Does it by any chance have a "Perfect Fire" controller?

Hey Mike,

Yeah, its a perfect fire model, with a LED Keypad to the right of the oven. Got a "start" button, up and down arrow buttons, cone button, enter button.

22.5" model. Will see if I can go snap a pic and show ya what I got.
