for me it was my sak huntsman I lost when I was 13, 14?. It was the first sak my dad ever bought for me when I graduated from military school ( I had been sent there...as a problem child). I was walking through our neghbors yard and it fell out of my pocket. A year later my neighbor found it, it had been run over by his lawnmower (and run over quite well!!!.

...so whats the most devastating thing thats ever happened to one of your knives???

losing a sentimental knife was much worse than anything that could happend to my more expensive ones. I had some knife that was given to me as a youngster by my dad that had a picture of Fess Parker as Davy Crocket with his coonskin hat on. It had a blade on one end and a screwdriver/bottle opener and a can open on the other end. I carried that knife for 20 years and lost it pheasant hunting when I got back to the truck and found that my pocket had a hole in it. Besides the fact that it came from my dad, I had cleaned a whole lot of game with that old knife and I still miss it.

I know how you feel. I had my grandpas pocket my grandmother gave me on the day of his funeral, 1973, I lost it three days later!!! always regretted that (of course it wasnt safe in the hands of a 4 year old!! as far as not loosing it!!!)

2 storys come to mind. First was the old stag handled Camillus stockman that my Grandfather gave me. I loved that knife. I had those old, blue/black blades so sharp, you could shave the hair off a gnat's ass. One day at high school(back in the days when EVERYBODY carried a knife and nobody got hurt), some so-called friend of mine asked to use my pocketknife. That's the last time I let somebody use one of my knives without verifying what the use will be. This moron used the big clip blade to pry open his locker! Snapped the blade off at midpoint, and he sheepishly handed me my knife back and said, "oops, sorry Dude". I literally cried over that event.

Second would be the old(read collectable)stag handled Puma lockback, sitting mint condition on my desk in it's nice green and yellow box, until my dufus Brother in Law came along. Dufus picks up my Puma and, from chest height, drops my knife point first onto the floor, which was thin carpet on top of solid concrete. Of course, the tip curled over like 90 degrees. Bingo, bango, bongo, no more collector piece! Again, I get the "oops, sorry Dude" treatment.

Lost a Stainless Pro-Grip that my parents gave me when I graduated from Boot Camp in San Diego.

My trusty dremel got ahold of my old large crkt s-2 for a little "modification" to help it close a little further so it would line up with the detent ball better,...well needless to say, I overground it and f'd it all up to where the blade now hits the back pin when its closed!! doh!! I still use it as a beater knife in my tacklebox and it only cost me 25$ anyways. F it, I like grinding stuff.

I was sharpening my new, expensive, William Henry T10 Lancet for the first time with my new Lansky sharpening system. To make a long story short, the clamp put a tiny scratch the blade (something I didn't think could happen). It was devastating... this beautiful, flawless knife that I was babying and only using to open mail had a tiny scratch on the blade. Since it was "ruined" I started carrying it around :D. Funny thing is, with all the daily carry and use this knife gets, it still only has that one tiny scratch on it.

I've lost more knives than ya' could shake a stick at, many of 'em sentimental in nature. But that lacks drama. As far as actually damaging knives one of the worst that comes to mind was when I was working construction and loaned my Sebenza to my supervisor who immediately cut some plastic RIGHT ACROSS a brick wall. Mucked the edge up plenty good I can tell ya'.

The worst I've ever abused a knife was when I had an EK Commando that I used to stab and pry up a buncha frozen gravel and rocks. My truck was stuck on an icy hill back in the woods a lil' ways, had to get some gravel to get some traction. It was late at night and I can vividly remember sparks flying when that tip and edge hit the rocks several times After I got home and looked the knife over I noticed that there were no significant chips out of the blade. Took it an' had it professionally sharpened for $1.00 and it was as good as new again. I guess all in all that's not the worst thing I did with that knife. A few months later I traded it off.:(

I lost a Buck 110 over the side while working on the USS White Plains. It now resides at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.

Fishing. Paddleing my boat. Laid the paddle across the boat to cut some bait. Cut the bait and laid a BM 35 on the paddle. Picked up the paddle and plunk! there goes my BM 35 into the Guadalupe River. Stupid!!! Lost a Puma in the same river years before. Different circumstances but still Stupid!!!:D

There is two that come to mind. I lost a Wayne Valchovic folder during a move 13 years ago. The one that really turns my stomach was my decision to sell a Harvey McBurnette engraved folder 2 years ago. It still makes me ill. Both examples to me are far worst than destroying one in use.

i was cutting open a box in a home depot with my mini x ray vision, when this elderly gent comes up to me and asks if i would help him load a few sacks of concrete unto a flat cart. i put the knife on the box i was about to cut open and turned my back to it for no more than 1 minute. gone! some theivin jerk is now enjoying my knife.

scar1, wouldnt it be nice, however far fetched, if that arclock failed him somehow and he cut off all his fingers?! That would serve that skunk right. Too bad, he will be safe as a bug in a rug with that beefy lock!...
Hopefully he'll drop it on his toes with the blade opened;)

I traded-off my last REKAT Sifu a few months ago. THAT's the worse thing.:(.

Well,
I guess I should weigh in here bout loosing knives. I have not misplaced my most sentimental knife, though I do not have it in my possession. I lost a 710 when I was snowboarding one day, I accidently didn't zip up my pocket and then i fell and yes, somone up in mamoth got a nice knife. Then I had a 750 and it like disapeared out of my pocket or something like that, i have no idea what happened to it.. so yes needless to say that depressed me quite badly.. needless to say I need to buy a pos for snowboarding etc.

Cold Steel SRK hitting a live lamp wire.
The all around Kraton help prevent me from being fried. The blade had a big hole melted in it, and I have to grind a significant amount of metal to remove the big hole.

calyth whewwwww  !!! close one!!!

hey pete, you ever though about using a strop on your blade? will prevent future excessive scratches, wear, ect. :)
